Pros: It keeps the attention of the children, history included.
Cons: It is a great kids book, no cons.
I just finished reading this book last night with my two children. They really enjoyed it. It caught their attention and they wanted me to keep reading more and more. Reading instead of the TV and Computer, Great!!!
The Story is about a mouse named Geronimo Stilton. He runs the Rodent's Gazzette. One day he dropped his nephew off at school and met his teacher Miss Angel Paws. The class was deciding on field trip options. Geronimo Stilton offered to take the whole class to Niagara Falls . It was an expensive trip but he wanted to spend time with Miss Angel Paws.
On the plane, the children pushed around the windows and everyone was able to see all the sites except Geronimo. Then they arrived at the falls .All of the children pushed in to see the views and everyone saw the great site except Geronimo. After the falls the class was camping out. Miss Angel Paws told Geronimo he had to set up the tents. He had no idea how to do so . He called his sister Thea for directions. The book shows graphically how to set up a tent. Geronmio was then told he had to set up an outside bathroom. He had no idea, so he called Thea. Again the book shows graphics on how to set up the outside bathroom. Miss fancy Paws said all the kids were hungry. Geronimo had no idea how to cook outside. He called Thea. The book shows three different graphics of how to cook over a fire. These are all "kid" graphics. The next day, they took a ride on the Maid of the Mist. A boat that goes under the falls. The book gives the history of the boat. They also visit an island by the falls that was originally originated by indians. There is a history page on different indian heritages. Later that afternoon , they took a hike a saw different trees. There are two pages on different trees and their purposes. They also show the differences in what their leaves look like.
I really like this book . I like it because it especially relates to us because we live 45 minutes from Niagara Falls. I also like the history pages incorporated in the book. It gives us a little discussion in the midst of the story. The pictures are bright and alluring.
The book is a paperback that costs $5.99 in the U.S and $7.99 in Canada. It is an early reader chapter book ages 7-10. It has 110 pages. I purchased the book through a book company called Scholastic. There are 25 books in the Geronimo Stilton Series.
