This book should have been titled "100 Ways To Humiliate Yourself By Paying Things You Don't Need to" instead of Final Fantasy IX Guide.
Apparently some morons in Brady Games/PlayOnline think by putting ANYTHING online into a book is a magnificent idea and hence would create some market/innovative/intellectual/interactive values in it. Not only there ISN'T any of those values present, the book creates anger and disgust. They're WRONG, and WRONG BIG TIME.
For those of you who doesn't understand why I am so furious, let me tell you why. This book, which you pat $12.99 for, does NOT tell you much about the secrets of the game. If you want to learn more, you will need to log onto their website, and it's all free. In there you will discover it has a DIRECT replica of the book, and more secrets than the book. So, why would ANYONE pay $12.99 for something that is inferior? Just log onto the website, it's free man, and it has more information than the book. Well, if you wanna tell me because you don't want to run back and forth in front of the computer and your Playstation, oh, you're in for a very long FF9 trip, very long. What the book tells you is pretty much what you can figure out by yourself, if not less.
I mean, the idea of getting a strategy guide is to play the game and explore as much secret as possible, if not all. And here comes Final Fantasy IX Official Strategy Guide, a rollercoaster of a guide that tells you to input dumb keywords online to get information on their website. First of all you pay for a book, second of all you need to register with them by telling them your personal information, and third of all, you need to run constantly from the computer and your Playstation back and forth because, if you don't get online and connect to their website, you can't get most of the secrets in the game! The reason why anyone would want to BUY for a strategy guide is to play the game and explore as much as possible without having to run back and forth from the computer and the Playstation. There are TONS of websites on the web that offers more extensive walkthroughs than this piece of junk. There are no item locations in this guide, all they tell you is "Explore the area for some goodies" or "make sure you search everywhere." Hey buddy, do I need to pay $12.99 for your simple advice of wisdom? Even so, AT LEAST list the location of key items, I mean, key items that will significantly increase your characters' stats or plot changes. Nope, all they do is tell you what the key item is called in about 20 pages before, and not mentioning it again; you've gotta figure it out yourself. Now, what in the world is a "strategy guide" is that? This is false advertising man, they outta be sued.
That is not the worst part, the worst part is that you just have to register with the website and keep coming back to them for information. And believe me, there are WAY too many situations in the game that you need to run back to the computer to get what you want. Look Brady Games, not everyone in this world that purchased this guide have their computers sitting besides their TVs. Please, if you were going to issue something like this, make sure you print in BOLD on the cover, "Computer Monitor Required Next To Console."
Avoid this piece of junk at all cost, you can get all the information of the game at http://www.gamefaqs.com, you just need to run back and forth or print the pages out. But since you will run back and forth with this book, why would you pay for something you don't need to? Brady Games should refund all their customers who unfortunately paid for this junk.
You've been warned. Throwing your money into the water is more worthwhile, at least you can enjoy a sound of SPLASH.
