la_te_ra_lus's Full Review: Final Fantasy IX for PlayStation 1
I'm telling you, you HAVE to play this game. There was nothing about it I didn't like. First of all, the game play was totally easy. The fighting system is totally basic and easy to understand, and the field controls are no harder. Your fingers don't have to be fast for any of the game and there is no annoying caterpillar program like in Final Fantasy VIII (Stay far away from that game).
As for graphics-During game play, The character graphics could use a little work (but they aren't horrific like in FFVII), but the background graphics leave nothing to be desired. During an FMV sequence, both the character and the background graphics were completely flawless and totally realistic.
There's not much to say about the music except that Uematsu knew what he was doing... again. I bought the soundtrack, and I recommend that too.
The story has to be the best part of the game. Side quests don't cut into the story and it has just enough twists to keep the story interesting (and it definitely is interesting.) If you're the kind of person who skips conversations and FMV's to just play the game, you'll be missing a lot if you do that on this game (not to mention you won't have any idea what you're doing). My favorite part is the ending, which you'll definitely want to see, so don't quit half way through. This is the best ending I've ever seen on any story of any kind an I mean it. This game is a long one so get comfortable.
