revphu's Full Review: Final Fantasy IX for PlayStation 1
Wow doesn't even begin to describe this game! If you are a fan of the series the first thing you will notice is the return to old school style! If you are a beginner in the great wide world of Final Fantasy then you will notice many things. As those who know it have come to expect, the graphics are wild. The music is out standing. Of course, most of all the story is as epic as ever.
You begin the game as a young actor/thief that has grand plans for his next venue. Of course this doesn't last long as the story dips and turns leaving you needing more. The main focus of this game is the eidolons, or summons. I won't tell you how they are involved, but trust me it's very in-depth. The best part is the fact that they brought back Black and White mages from the very first game!
The in-game graphics are very well done. Tons of "cinematic" scenes for spells and summons. Of course the real cinematics, or story scenes, are so slick that my dad walked in and saw one going and asked me what movie I had in. No joke.
Then we come to the battle system. All new to the FF realm we see abilities gained through items, using Ability Points gained in battles, or AP. This leaves the player much freedom to concern him/her self with gaining the skills he/she finds usefull. In battle the skills are very usefull and can customize the way you fight to a fine degree.
During the whole game you can let your ears be delighted by the music. This sounds like an orchestra is hiding itself inside that flat little Playstation of yours'. I have yet to hear it all, but from what I've heard so far the music is the best ever.
Over all this is THE game to own. I'm just sad that it ends.....
