I have known about Firestones peeling their treads off since 1985 when 3 out of 4 of the rear tires peeled off of the back of my father's 1984 F-350 Crew Cab Dually. After Having those replaced under warranty and one more throwing tread we replaced them all with Kelly Safari SJRs. Since then our family has never bought Firestone tires ever again. From what we saw the quality of these tires did not improve.
In 1993 a friend of the family bought a new F-350 Crew Cab Dually and went through 8 tires before figuring out what we were telling him was true. He was lucky...
Earlier this year a friend of the family died when her 1998 Explorer Rolled when one of the Firestone tires came apart on the freeway.
Tires like brakes are one of the most important parts of your car. Never take them for granted. If one is bald, replace it. If one has a hole in it, have it fixed by a professional. If it is made by a manufacturer who has a long history of substandard products, get rid of them.
Your life, your family's life, depends on them.
