popsrocks's Full Review: First Alert Tundra Fire Suppresser 14 fl oz
First Alert has a nifty new small sized fire extinguisher in a 14 oz size. That's not much bigger that a large can of Arizona Tea. I saw it on the shelves of the Home Depot nearby where I live. It looks more like a toy than a "real" fire extinguisher.
First Alert is a fine company. I have used their products for safety around the house for years. I have had several extinguishers, and smoke detectors along with a carbon monoxide detector. I trust them to help protect me and my family.
Big Claims!
The Tundra fire extinguisher by First Alert makes some pretty big claims! It notes that it sprays longer than most small and large fire extinguishers. It even has a bar graph on the side of the can noting a small fire extinguisher sprays for 8 seconds while a large fire extinguisher sprays for 13 seconds. The First Alert Tundra sprays for 32 seconds. That's a good long time spraying. I recall one fire I had to put out with a large fire extinguisher. I was lucky that the very last second of spray gave me the ability to put out the gasoline fire I was attacking. (a generator caught fire on the job site) Having more spray time is important when putting out that kind of fire.
The mini sized First Alert Tundra fire suppressor is the kind of thing that one hopes, and more than likely, will never need or use. It is however a very handy tool to have "just in case..."
This piece of equipment is good for A,B,and C Fires. That takes care of oil and liquid fires, wood fires and electrical fires. Playing With Fire
I happen to be a guy who likes playing with toys so I wasted $15 to purchase one of these things, start a fire and used the First Alert Tundra to put it out.I built a very controlled wood fire in my fire pit that we use outside from time to time. I started the fire, let it burn a while creating hot embers and then opened the cap of the First Alert Tundra. You don't have to shake the bottle and it's under pressure and will work in any position, even upside down.
Once the fire was cookin' I let loose and a steady stream of substance came out. Bing bang, my fire was out within ten seconds! I kept spraying just to get an idea how long it truly did spray. It did go on for over half a minute so it's claims of expanded spray time did ring true. This, as most fire extinguishers are good for but one use only.
Likes and Dislikes
There is no gauge to tell if pressure is still in the can. There's a date that stated this extinguisher was good for about two years. I just know I wouldn't throw the thing away right away and at the same time wouldn't know if I had a fire suppressor after few months or half a year after that time.
I like the very compact size. I like that its claim of easy clean up seems true. I used it in the fire pit and that was on concrete so I couldn't really test the clean up factor.
I also like that this is for A,B and C fires. That means no thinking need be done in case of emergency. Just use it! The directions mention to always call 911 FIRST and then fight a fire that is small enough that you can do so from three or four feet away.
Safety First is a good way to live and offers safety products that can be depended on.
This is a duplicate review of one from earlier this month that I deleted inadvertently. I did have it backed up from another source/ First time that ever happened. Duh!
