| Kissikins's Full Review: First Response 1-Step Pregnancy Test |
I won't assume that all people know how a pregnancy test work's so I will briefly describe it before telling my experience.
A home pregnancy test can be purchased at most any store, they are relatively cheap, ranging from $10 to $18. They test for a hormone that is present in pregnant women. Many women choose to use this method because they are very accurate in most cases. If it say's you are pregnant, chances are 99.9% that you are! In order for it to show you are pregnant, that hormone would have to be present in your urine. However, they are known to give you a false result, indicating you are not pregnant, when you actually are. The test comes with a stick, wrapped in a foiled package, once opened you hold it under a stream of urine, then place the stick on a counter or somewhere sturdy where it won't be disturbed, keep in mind moving the product around can also give you false result's, so leave it alone until it is finished. With this particular test, a single pink line indicates you are not pregnant, two pink lines means you are. The test takes only a few minutes to complete.
My Experience -
I have 3 children. With my first child I took the EPT home test, result's were accurate. With my second child I purchased the First Response test, it showed that I was NOT pregnant. After waiting a week I realized this test had to have been wrong, purchased the EPT test and discovered I was indeed pregnant.
8 year's go by and in that time frame I had decided to have surgery (a tubal ligation) to keep us from having any more children. After 22 month's I started feeling sick often in the morning's and a friend jokingly said, "perhaps you are pregnant", naturally we both laughed because I only had a .02% chance of having a baby after having my surgery.
I finally was showing several symptom's and purchased the First Response home test. The result's were negative. Having had children before I was fairly convinced I was pregnant, so as before, I went out and purchased EPT and immediately the test showed I was in fact pregnant!
The point I would really like to stress here is, First Response not only gave me a false result once, but twice! This in my situation could have been very serious! When a person has a tubal ligation to keep them from having children and do become pregnant anyway, they have a HIGH chance that the pregnancy would take place in the fallopian tubes which is extremely dangerous and means that you can not carry the pregnancy! Once again I had beat the odd's and my baby was not in the fallopian tubes, so I was able to go on to deliver a healthy baby girl who is now 2 1/2 years old! Had I trusted First Response and believed the result's it gave me, I would have ended up in the emergency room with a serious situation facing me. The EPT test was accurate with all 3 children, and get's a two thumb's up from me.
If memory serves me correctly the EPT test in my area was roughly two dollars more in price, but was worth that to get a accurate result. I can not recommend First Response to anyone based on my experience.
I hope this review has been informative to people who will be at some point purchasing a home pregnancy test!
