| dr427's Full Review: Fisher J8208C Digital Camera |
We wanted to get a camera for our 4 year old daughter for Christmas. All the basic "normal" cameras were just too much for someone who can't really read yet. Plus the reality of getting dropped was all too real.
We found the Fisher Price camera and thought we would give it a shot. The specs on the image quality were vague, but hey this is more or less a high tech toy for our daughter.
The feel of the camera is nice. Rubberized grip handles and nice size color coded and shaped buttons. Very easy for our daughter to use. The viewfinder is a dual optical and is great because kids never can seem to squint one eye and look through cameras, telescopes, and microscopes. The dual optical viewfinder helps them tremendously. The rear LCD display is poor. It does it's job, but in low resolution.
The image quality is disappointing in that most of the photos aren't very usable to keep and print. Very grainy with lots of noise.
The important thing is my daughter LOVES taking pictures and then deleting them and taking more. It is the action of doing it that is important to her and then reviewing them and moving on. I could probably delete half the pictures and she wouldn't know or care as long as she can keep taking more and seeing the results instantly and the flash only adds to her excitement.
Battery life has been quite astonishing as we have yet to replace the 4 lithium AA's we put in at Christmas and here it is the beginning of January and probably 200-300 shots already. The battery cover needs to be redesigned so you don't need a screwdriver to get it off. There has to be a better way to change batteries.
