Cons:Submarine comes apart too easily, hard to find in stores
The Bottom Line: Cute Blue's Clues playset that helps to promote pretend play. Any Blue's Clues fan would love this!

Those of you who have read my past reviews know that my 2 year old daughter is a Blue's Clues fanatic, which means, of course, that mommy and daddy are fans too. While browsing through eBay one day, I ran across the Blue's Clues Underwater Collectible Playset and to my delight saw that there were 2 other sets available as well, a Safari Playset and a Racing Playset. This particular eBay seller had all 3 up for auction brand new in the box so I made sure and won all 3 auctions so that I could give these to Courtney for Christmas.

About Blue's Clues Underwater Collectible Playset

These playset are really the cutest things! There are only 4 pieces in each set but they are pretty unique as far as Blue's Clues toys go! Included in the Blue's Clues Underwater Collectible Playset is:

Shovel and Pail Shovel and Pail come together as one piece and sitting inside of Pail is a cute orange crab. At their highest point they stand about 2 1/4 inches high and are made of a rubbery plastic.

A Submarine You can't explore life under the ocean without a submarine! This particular submarine is blue with yellow and orange accents and is made from hard platic. It's about 3 1/2 inches at it's widest and comes as 2 pieces. You can fit Blue into the submarine and snap the 2 pieces together so that she'll stay in there.

Blue Naturally, Blue is included in this playset and in fact, is included in all 3 playsets. In this one, Blue stands about 2 3/4 inches high and is holding a star in her right paw. She is made of rubbery plastic and like I said above, she will fit into the submarine but you do have to open the submarine completely to get her in there then snap the 2 pieces together.

Fish and Sea Plant To round off our underwater theme are 2 purple fish hiding amongst some sea plants. This piece is made from rubbery plastic and is about 2 inches high.

Why I Recommend Blue's Clues Underwater Collectible Playset

First of all, any Blue's Clues fan will love not just this playset but all 3. There are no lights or noises and no batteries are required. Instead, this promotes pretend play and helps children to use their imagination.

Courtney loves this playset because of the submarine and not only does she like to put Blue in the submarine but any figurine that will fit. Even if it doesn't fit, she will try her best to fit in anything she sets her mind to. Another thing she likes to do is to tell me what each item is. She'll hold up Blue and yell at me "Blue!" and then holds up Shovel and Pail and do the same, although Shovel comes out sounding like "ovel". These type of toys have helped her speech tremendously because she seems to have this need to hold them up and name them off so she is repeating what each item is over and over. She also love to mix all 3 playsets together and because the figures are small enough, she can use them in her Blue's Clues Playhouse and her Blue's Clues Schoolhouse.

The only complaint I have about the Blue's Clues Underwater Collectible Playset is that the submarine, which comes in 2 parts and snaps together, comes back apart very easily. It doesn't snap into place very sturdily and maybe that was done by design so that children don't have a hard time opening and closing it. However, it does come apart too easily in my opinion and Courtney gets mad every time Blue falls out.

This playset is very easy to clean. Being that they're made of plastic, should they get dirty, a damp cloth wipes them up nice and clean. The recommended age for the Blue's Clues Underwater Collectible Playset is 2 to 5 years old. I wouldn't recommend giving them to a child under 2 because they could pose a possible choking hazard. For Blue's Clues fans ages 2 and up though, this would be a great and inexpensive gift for birthdays and holidays. Now that Christmas is over, this might be an idea for their Easter basket!
