My son loves to watch Dora the Explorer on Nick Jr., just like he loves Bob the Builder and Blue’s Clues. Unfortunately, finding “boyish” toys affiliated with Dora the Explorer is rather difficult! I doubt my hubby would go for a Dora Doll in the house (snicker).

When I happened upon the Talking Friends Swiper Doll right before Christmas, I could not refuse! For anyone not familiar with the show Dora the Explorer, you can check out the website at www.nickjr.com.


Toy Information

Swiper, aka the “Sneaky Fox”, stands about 10 inches tall, and is a plush type toy. He will sit up straight on his bottom without being propped up. He looks very realistic when compared to his animated counterpart. Fisher Price did a great job on this doll. He has the blue mask, the blue gloves, real whiskers, slanted eyebrows and that devilish grin!

On the show, Swiper the Fox is known for being sneaky! He will steal important things from Dora and her sidekick Boots if they aren’t careful on their journeys. Sometimes they can stop him, but other times they aren’t so lucky. I really think Swiper has a good heart, he just can’t control his sneakiness.

The fun thing about this doll is that when you squeeze his tummy, you will hear three of his famous phrases! (Please note: the product information listed here on Epinions gives the 3 phrases this doll says, and the information listed seems to be different than what the doll actually says. I’m not sure why this is, or if there are 2 versions of this doll, but wanted to make note of it.)

The doll is surface washable only since it has batteries in it. It takes a 2.5 volt battery. The battery compartment is in the doll’s back, and is covered by the material on the doll (closed with a velcro tab).


Playing With Talking Friends Swiper

My son LOVES this toy! He was SO excited to open up a present from Santa that had a Swiper the Fox TALKING doll inside! He especially loves to have Swiper at his side when he’s watching Dora the Explorer in the mornings.

He has taken to Swiper’s phrase, “Ohhhh Maaaan!”, and it is quite funny! That phrase is a favorite around our house now. My son says it all the time. He’ll bring Swiper to me so he can show me that he says the phrase just like the doll does. It’s hilarious.

The doll seems to be holding up very well. I’m sure over time he’ll get the doll dirty and it’ll sustain wear and tear since it’s plush, but you can surface wash it with a wet cloth when it gets dirty. Nothing has gotten ripped off of the doll, the voice still works and the doll is in perfect shape! So it’s very durable. My son is ALL boy, so trust me when I say, Swiper has been through the ringer!

When my son isn’t entertaining Swiper (or vice versa), the doll sits on his bookshelf next to Tigger and Mike from Monster’s Inc. The 3 go nicely together if you ask me! LOL

Personal Recommendation

I would most certainly recommend this doll to any Dora the Explorer fans! And ESPECIALLY fans of Swiper the Fox! I was thrilled to find this toy since it is more “boyish” than a Dora doll. My son loves it and that makes me happy. I’d certainly buy it again. And the price wasn’t bad at all!

FYI, there is another Talking Friends doll as well. This same type toy is also available in “Boots”, Dora’s sidekick and monkey. There are plenty of Dora dolls out there, but YAY for Fisher Price for making a Boots and Swiper doll!
