The #1 toy we adore.
From tiny to strong this toy has done only wonderful things as far as we can tell. Worth the price, the space needed for it, and the research into getting the best toys possible.
When our son was just 3 months old we carefully placed him in this jumper. We where concerned about his size, safety, and the impact such a toy would be long term.
It is thought that many such toys that you place a child in from walkers to the saucers can be in their own ways harmful. Delaying walking, crawling, and many other things babies gain from explorative roaming.
Our son though, loved to stand; it seemed from day one he wanted to be up right and loved to put weight in his tiny chubby legs. He held himself out well, stood just like we thought he would. (We put him in one at toys-r-us after reading reviews here) At first he had no interest in the toys. We had to put a box under it so he could stand up, and a baby blanket kept him snug.
Now at 8 months old he is a jumping machine. We still are concerned about such toys but we believe in moderation. He gets lots of look time to roam and explore and still gets to enjoy him bounce time.
By now it clear when he wants to bounce, he will try and bounce in our laps and when we put him in it, he jumps for joy and makes the more wonderful sounds.
Cost: About $70 last year at toys-r-us plus we used a discount coupon bringing it down to $60 I believe.
Pros: We have found this to be a safe toy, entertaining to the baby and the rest of the family watching him jump for joy.
~Sturdy, with other children and pets running around it does not budge.
~It is moved about twice a day, the legs folded. It has not shown any wear and tear from that in the past 5 months.
~A 18 month old baby weighing 22lbs climbed in it while it and baby where at a sitters. She enjoyed the toys, swung back and forth, and loved it so much her parents want to get her one. We need to look into the age range for this before they do.
~It travels very well. It is big, no question but fits with ease into our van and even into a friends 4 door tiny car. It goes with us when we plan to be gone all day and some place where he might be able to use it. Like a day of moving friends!
~The one we have has little nylon banners on the side. At about 7 months our son started to be able to gram them and pull himself to them. He always loves looking at them.
~Some babies we have seen around it love the toys; our son has little interest in them though.
~Music plays from the detachable toy. It is nothing amazing but the baby loves it and it seems to melt into the background house noise without annoying the adults. When baby jumps, it plays. It will also play when baby pushes a button. It is so wonderful to see baby get excited and jump like a crazy little monkey and here the music further excites him.
~Baby work out. This toy helps baby get out all the energy he needs to when Mom and Dad can not keep up. 20 minutes late at night when baby just will not sleep tends to do the trick. I love using this to help baby understand he is sleepy.
Cons
~Its BIG! Taking up about 4x4 feet of a room. It does fold up but we live in a tiny house and when folded it goes in a hall way taking up about half of it.
~Price! About 7 years ago big toys for our daughter cost about $40, low they all seem more then $60. Though I believe this to be one toy worth every penny, for a couple tight on money this might be hard.
~No changeable toys! Though a toy does some off to make a small try. (I can not see letting safe. Baby has not been able too but we keep an eye on it. He could not choke from it if he did.
~And finally the chance that too much time in this or any toy like it could delay walking and other developmental milestones. A child eat in this by the way) You can not safely add any toys to this. Maybe I am spoiled but I would like to be able to upgrade toys as baby grows considering the wide age range. Also my husband was able to snap out the green spinner while making sure the toys where
Update:
Cleaning Care. A kind epinions person reminded me that I forgot to add care instructions about this. We have cleaned it with a damp cloth with just a little vinegar added when baby has a spill over diaper. My husband has taken it out and put it into the washing machine and dryer and looks no worse for it. The cloth seat is really very easy to remove and clean.
The plastic parts are also easy to wipe down though if baby is one to spit up it might be a little harder as you would need to remove one of the toys to get under it. Also not hard though and just take a few seconds. If you for some reason let baby eat in this toy (NOT a good idea) You would have toys to clean and it would take a short while depending on the food.
Some have mentioned that the jumping can make for a messy diaper and baby and toy. We use cloth diapers and this is not a problem for us. It has been with a few times though with disposables. Again, the possibility of this happening is not enough for me rate it less as blow out diapers can happen all over. Also with us, our son tends to do his dirty business in the morning, so we can wait till he is done with that.
Hope this helps!
