| kpatterson's Full Review: Fisher Price Deluxe Soothing Bouncer Seat |
This was one of the two (the other being the four-in-one car seat, baby carrier, stroller ensemble) baby items I would consider a must have.
Walk into any baby supermagadget outlet for the first time and you, if you are like me, will be overwhelmed by all the products manufacturers swear you will need to get your little one through the first year(s) of life. Had I to do it over again, I would be much more judicious in selecting the must haves. I bought and was given things that neither I or my daughter barely, if ever, used!
The Fisher Price Deluxe Soothing Bouncer Seat is one of the few items we used daily for approximately nine months, and it evolved as my daughters needs changed. The first three months this Bouncer Seat was used as a second bed and plopping spot. It is light and compact enough, even after having a C-section I was able to effortlessly move it from room-to-room. I would let my daughter nap in it during the day so that I could keep an eye on her without having to climb up and down the stairs. The soothing (its a gentle vibration) part of this bouncy chair was a bonus. It did help to lull my daughter to sleep, on occasion. It, however, had absolutely no effect on the colic. My daughter was inconsolable (and I tried EVERYTHING) from approximately 4 pm to 8 pm every evening until her fourth month. I managed to find a couple of things that would occasionally help her sleep through the madness
none of which was product related
sorry!
At around the third month, my daughter was able to play with the toy bar that attached to either side of the seats frame. From that point, it was her activity seat; somewhere to set her, she would be entertained, and I could tend to the mundane parts of my day.
After the fourth month, it made for a perfect pseudo-highchair. Since my daughter wasnt quite able to sit without support, it was perfect at meal time. It became a multi-functional necessity that my husband and I used for every room in the house. I would even use it in the bathroom so she was at arms reach while I did the shower/makeup thing.
The quilted cloth part of the seat covers a wire frame. The vibration unit is part of the frame, so the cover can be easily removed for washing. It washes extremely well in the machine. I washed it by itself using cold water and laundry detergent, and then dried it on its frame, so as to avoid shrinking. I was initially concerned about putting it in the washing machine as it does have a canopy with wire supports. The wire did not rust through the fabric, tear the fabric, nor did it pose any consequence to the washing machine. After several washes (couldnt say exactly how many) it still looks brand new. In fact, I have loaned it to a friend who is expecting in July, and she thought it was new. I will say that Fisher Price has changed the pattern it is using; the one I own is a primary colored Humpty Dumpty print. I will repeat, using cold water and laundry detergent, the colors did not bleed or fade.
I would highly recommend this item to any expectant parent(s). I am confident in saying that it will be one of the few items you will use and from which you will feel you get your moneys worth.
