While clearing out some of my kids’ baby toys, one of the things I took out was the Fisher Price Drop & Roar Dinosaur. This toy was one of their favorites.

The Drop & Roar Dinosaur body comes unassembled in four parts. There the main part of the toy, plus the dinosaur head, neck and tail. The parts click together easily and there are screws to ensure the neck and tail are properly secured. There are a couple other additional toys to add to the dinosaur as well as four of the Fisher Price Roll-A-Round balls. The roll-a-round balls are clear plastic balls with objects inside. The internal objects usually spin as the ball rolls. The balls are plastic, and are just the right size for a baby to hold. Like some other baby toys, the dinosaur is a little on the large side when it is completely assembled. It is 14 inches high, 26 inches wide and 15 inches deep. In my tiny house this seemed to take up a lot of space. However for a baby learning to crawl or sit up, this toy probably feels like it is just the right size. This toy takes 3 AAA batteries for lights and sound effects.

The dinosaur has several holes to place a ball. Depending on where the ball is placed, it will go sailing through the dinosaur, prompting the lights and sounds. The ball may end up bouncing down the step-like dinosaur tail, or it can roll down the neck and out through the dino’s mouth. There are also openings by the feet where the ball may roll out.

The Drop & Roar Dinosaur is great for developing motor skills. Picking up the balls and placing them into the appropriate spot is a great hand-eye skill to develop.

The Fisher Price Drop & Roar Dinosaur was one of my kids’ favorite toys when they were babies. I have had a hard time parting with it because it was one of the toys that they loved and played with so frequently.  Both of my kids spent so much time sitting in front of the dinosaur and watching the roll-a-round balls. I can still picture my daughter as she laughed and clapped her hands as the ball would roll down the tail.

While most of the toy has remained in good condition over the years, it is the little things that didn’t hold up well. There used to be a little door by one of the feet that would open to let the ball out. I remember that my daughter pulled that off and we were never able to get it back on again. There also used to be a toy on the tail that would spin as the ball passed by. That is also long gone. But the rest of the dinosaur is still intact.

If you have an aversion to the lights and sounds, this can easily be used without the batteries. It does have a volume and power switch. This was one of the toys where the sounds and music were never too bothersome for me.

The Fisher Price Drop & Roar Dinosaur was a toy that both of my kids loved. They have long outgrown it, but I hate the idea of getting rid of it. It really gives me such nice memories of them. It is a bit bigger than some baby toys, so we sometimes had a hard time finding the right spot for it. It is a great development toy, but it also produces smiles and laughter.
