KMINER's Full Review: Fisher-Price Fisher- Brilliant Basics Stroll-Along...
At 17 months my youngest daughter was already walking, but really wanted a stroller like her big sister. (20 months older than her) The problem was that when the youngest played with any of her big sister's strollers, she always seemed to fall down or tip over! Well I couldn't have that, so I went searching for a "little kid's" stroller this past Christmas season .. and landed on the Fisher Price - Brilliant Basics Stroll-Along Walker. At only $25.00, under the tree it went!
This stroller is a great design, and we've come to love everything we've owned in the Brilliant Basics collection. It's designed as a sturdy base plastic stroller, complete in pastel colors. The legs and wheels are really well set apart and reminds you of the "walkers" many kids have used in the past to help develop walking and pulling up to stand skills. This stroller really seems designed with budding walkers in mind, and I love that it was so well thought out!
Product Description "When your baby is ready for the new world of walking, this sturdy stroller is ready to lend support. The wide base and easy-grasp handle help steady her first steps, while adorable stroller styling encourages early role play and nurturing. She can press the wiggly bear's tummy for musical rewards, or enjoy fun activities with spinners, roller bar and flipbook. There's even room to take a friend along for a stroll! Includes three button cell batteries."
I think they really described the product well. It really is a walker first, though I think children certain don't see it that way. I love that Fisher Price thought this toy out, and realized that a design like a stroller might have multiple (and long term) use. The stroller comes boxed and mostly assembled. There are a few pieces to screw together, and the simple guide and screwdriver (along with a few minutes help from the husband on Christmas morning) was all that was needed. There's been no "up keep" for this stroller. Specifically the stroller is 19 x 5 x 16 inches and weighs 5 pounds. It is easy for both girls to use, and they can lift it if needed. This toy is recommended for ages 9 months and up.
The Fisher Price - Brilliant Basics Stroll-Along Walker has been a huge hit in my house, by both girls! My youngest is now 2 years old and her sister 3 1/2. The youngest is who plays with this stroller the most, though the older one can be found taking it for a spin! It really did help the youngest child steady herself when she was walking and I find myself thinking I could have even purchased this toy for her earlier than I did.
One of the best parts about this stroller is that she seemed very steady on it. She never tipped over and the base was really well designed. The stroller works well on all inside surfaces (we haven't taken it outside) we have including hardwood, ceramic tile and carpet. The sound of the plastic wheels on the hard floors isn't ideal, but they haven't made any scratches or anything.
The other best part about this stroller is the play factor. The My First Doll that we purchased to go along with this stroller fits perfectly. Other dolls have taken rides in the strollers as well, though we've noticed this stroller is best designed for "soft" dolls - we have some larger plastic body baby dolls that the girls insist on cramming into the stroller, and then they are upset when we cannot get those babies legs out!
You may have noticed I haven't commented on the music feature. I know this sounds horrible, but with 3 kids I am seriously tired of all the things that sing, talk, cry, and what not. It is always so loud in this house, and so I took the batteries out of this stroller so that my daughter wouldn't come to expect them! I will say that the music works fine (I did test it) - the little bear that sits on the top has a button on his belly that plays a few short tunes.
We store this Fisher Price - Brilliant Basics Stroll-Along Walker in the family playroom next to the other strollers we own. It's one of the few that doesn't fold, so it can take up more space. It is not the stroller we take when traveling and needing some "baby doll" gear for this reason. But it's a great toy to have in the house! We really love our stroller/walker and highly recommend it!
