Our son loved anything with wheels, so when he was 1 1/2 he got this for Christmas and he still uses it today 2 years later.
You pull it out of the box and it is already together, just put the batter in and go, which was real nice since he wanted to ride as soon as he opened it. We went outside and he couldn't get on it fast enough. It's nice because there are footrests and there is one button on the right side and all you have to do is push it and if you let go of it it stops. He didn't get it at first so we had to help and to be honest it is not that great in the grass, the wheels are not rubber they are plastic so it really can't grip onto anything. It constantly got stuck and he didn't really understand what he was supposed to do. We brought it inside and it worked much much better but we had to push it for him as he didn't understand about turning it, etc. For that reason I think that 12 months is a little young for the age on this toy.
I will say he really didn't get into it until he was almost 2 and after that we couldn't get him off of it. We kept inside in our basement as it just does not do well in the grass, at least ours, maybe if the lawn was completely flat and all grass with no rocks or anything it would be different. The great thing about it is that it only goes 2mph and it has a rechargable battery that takes no time at all to charge. We probably have to charge it once a week now because he rides it so much. It even has a little cargo area in the back where he will put balls or trains, etc and "drive" them to another area. He's almost 4 now and although he's almost outgrown it he still insists on riding it, he has a blast.
