KMINER's Full Review: Fisher-Price Fisher Price Laugh and Learn Storyboo...
My youngest daughter was 16 months this past Christmas. That can be a challenging age to shop for, and to find toys "all their own" that are both appropriate for their age and fun. We own a lot of Fisher Price toys and I felt drawn to this toy when I saw it on the shelves for under $20.00.
We put it under the tree and much to out delight our daughter loved it! And surprise, her older sister (age 3) really got a kick out of the toy as well!
The Fisher Price Laugh and Learn Storybook Rhymes comes as a plastic, kid friendly looking caterpillar on a small stand. I liked that it looked kid friendly and looked kind of similar to another caterpillar toy the kids already owned and loved. The body of the caterpillar has a head with light up nose and 3 segments to its body. Each part of the caterpillar's body contains a button (so 3 buttons total) that allows the user to select one of three modes of extra "teaching skills". The child can press the buttons to learn letters, numbers, colors, and first words. The toy stands on its own and has a cover and 2 "pages" to turn inside. The pages are coated cardstock-like pages inserted into a plastic casing. It hasn't shown much wear, but is easy to clean with a dry cloth or light wipe.
There is an on switch with 2 levels of volume. Each hand of the caterpillar has a light up button as well, so the correct side lights up to help draw the attention to the correct page. The songs inside are: I went to the animal fair, The ants go marching, Row row row your boat, One two buckle my shoe, Hickory Dickory dock, and Pat-a-cake Pat-a-cake.
From the company:
Storybook learning comes to life with a friendly bookworm, lights and sing-along nursery rhymes. Light-up hands point the way for baby to turn pages and learn about letters, numbers, colors and first words. Lots of story time and learning fun! Requires 3 "AAA" alkaline batteries. Approx. 10" H x 8" W.
Again our daughters really love this toy. We were pleasantly surprised. I was thinking they would get bored with it, as there are limited songs and I thought personally the toy would have needed more pages in order to keep their attention. But no, the 2 of them sit so quietly together and hold the toy in their lap and turn the pages. The girls seem delighted when the songs come on, and the listen to them over and over. Many times as well they place the caterpillar on a child's size table and clap and dance along with it. They are daily bringing it over to my husband or myself (or their 8 year old brother) and asking us to sing with them!
The Fisher Price Laugh and Learn Storybook Rhymes really scores points in the cute factor as well. I don't think this is the most well designed kids toy, and I don't feel it does extraordinary things, but I do feel it's a good value for the price. I find the pages and overall toy very attractive and durable. The whole toy is easy for their young hands - though I have to turn it on to play, they can turn the pages and carry it around on their own. I love that the girls seem to enjoy it so much!
I feel the Fisher Price Laugh and Learn Storybook Rhymes is a good value and a fun toy to have.
