Pros:Well made, fits well with series
Cons:doesn't do some of the things the other dinosaurs in the series can do
The Bottom Line: The Imaginext Apatosaurs fits well with the rest of the dinosaur series. Although it's not his favorite of the series, my son likes playing with this toy.
For my son’s fourth birthday, he received several of the dinosaurs in the Imaginext dinosaur series. One of them was the Fisher Price Imaginext Apatosaurus. The toys in this series are the creatures of the past combined with people of the present and weapons of the future. The Apatosaurus is mostly blue with a tan underbelly. The underside of the long neck is tan as well. It is almost one foot tall and is 13 inches long. It is the second largest of the dinosaurs that we have from the series. The largest is the Mega T-Rex. It is made out of the same quality, heavy plastic as I come to expect from a Fisher Price toy. The dinosaur’s neck can twist side to side, and the tail can be lifted up and down. The legs can move slightly at the point where the legs meet with the body. The base of all four feet are large and the dinosaur can easily stand up on its own. There is a silver helmet that can be placed over the dinosaur’s head. The weapon/seating gear that goes on the Apatosaurus’ back is big. There are two notches on the dinosaurs’ back for that gear. It clicks into place and stays on pretty securely, unlike the gear for Imaginext Pterodactyl. There is a spot for a figure to stand. When the weapons are placed in the correct spot, and the figure is twisted, the weapons will fire. There is a tow line on the back that can be pulled out and wound back up. I’m not quite sure exactly what the hook can or should pull up. The line that the tow hook is attached to can spin 360 degrees. The only time there is a problem is if the tail is pulled up all the way then it can interfere with the tow hook. The Imaginext Apatosaurus, like other Imaginext toys, is very well made. It doesn’t do much – every thing you want this toy to do must be done manually. Some of the other dinosaurs have features such is you move the tail the jaws of the mouth will open. This one doesn’t have any of those features. Despite this, my son really likes the Apatosaurus. He’ll even use it without all the weapon gear on the back. The Imaginext Apatosaurus fits well with the Imaginext dinosaur series and the past/future concept is interesting. It is a quality toy. My son likes all of his Imaginext dinosaurs, and this one included.
Other dinosaurs in the series: Mega T-Rex Pterodactyl Triceratops
