Better than a bouncy seat!

The Bottom Line: This chair is better than a bouncy seat and lasts a lot longer. You can also get a lot more use out of this chair than you can a bouncer.
My sister had this Infant to Toddler Rocker Chair from Fisher Price for her 2 year old when he was a baby. After we found out we were pregnant again, she handed it off to me for the baby. From the time our little guy was only a couple weeks old, this chair has been used quite a lot!

The Fisher Price Infant to Toddler Rocker Chair is really cute. It has a farm theme which can be used for either a boy or a girl. The seat covering is dark blue with the top half having a red barn and a cow in front of it. There is also a little butterfly in bright colors with different designs on him, there is green grass around the farm and a couple colorful flowers and an ear of corn. In the background there are light blue polka dots as well. Of course there is also the Fisher Price logo on the top too. The bottom half of the seat covering also has light blue polka dots but there are also a lot of colored drawings of cats, dogs, pigs, and lambs and cows. The colors of the animals are in pink, light blue, orange, red and green.
The bars of the seat are red with blue parts like the support bar between the sidebars and there are blue joint pieces where the back of the seat is. The front and the back ands of the support bars also have blue plastic pieces. This allows the chair to only rock so far. There is also a blue kick bar that allows the chair to be stationary. Underneath the front of the seat bottom, there is a white vibration box that requires a D battery. The toy bar is really cute. The design on the bar looks like a cow and there are 3 toys attached to it with red Velcro straps. There is a pig and a lamb with ball spinners on them that rattle when spun and a cow with a pull string that plays "Old Mac Donald" when pulled. The toys can be removed and the whole toy bar can also be taken off.
When it comes to the assembly, I can't really say much. Since my sister had given it to me, it was already put together. After looking at it though it doesn't look like there are many parts to put together. It looks like the sidebars came assembled. The kick bar looks like it just snapped into place while the support bar in the middle on the bottom looked like it just snapped on and screwed into the sides. I was looking at it because I had a screw back there that came lose. From what I can tell the only other piece is a red bar that makes up the back of the chair. It just looked like it just had to be shoved inside the tops of the joint pieces. It looks like it would have been pretty simple to put together but I didn't have to so I couldn't say for sure how simple it really was.
The seat cover comes off really easy. The cover fastens with plastic buckle-type snaps on the sides and in the front. Unsnapping these will allow you to slide off the top of the cover. It's that simple. I have had to wash it a few times already even though our little man is just a week over 2 months old. There has been a lot of spit-up in this chair since he is in this chair quite a bit. You can wash it in the washing machine but I always wash on the delicate cycle in cold water. I have never put it in my dryer though. I have always let it air-dry. I usually do this at night because our little guy doesn't sleep in it at night. I can't do this during the day because he takes a lot of naps in his chair.
I love the fact that the vibrator box is easy to get to. I had bouncy seats for our other two kids that I couldn't stand because to get to the batteries, you had to remove the box which was a huge pain to put back on. With this chair, all you have to do is turn it around to get to the back of the box. It's closed with a Philips screwdriver. We use the vibration a lot and we have to replace the battery about every 2 weeks. That's a lot of batteries so we buy them at the Dollar Store. The battery seems to last just as long no matter what kind you use. I like this seat better than any other bouncy seat we had ever had. Instead of the back of the seat just being bouncy, this one actually rocks. The other things that's great about it is the fact that it can also be used as a rocker for a toddler which means our little man will be able to use it for quite some time. The weight limit for this chair is 40 pounds while a regular bouncy seat is usually about 20-25 pounds. Plus I don't have to worry about the seat cover sagging to much with his weight either because with this chair there is a board as the bottom of the seat for support. Of course you can't see it unless you take the cover off.
There is a 3 point harness to keep him safe in his chair. The harness is attached to the chair and matches the seat covering. It's a piece of cloth that folds over the top of baby where his legs are. Think of it like folding a diaper over him as you get ready to fasten the tabs. There are plastic buckles that nap together on both sides. The harness comes up high enough so that I know there is no way he could squirm his way out of it. I think this chair is great right from the start. Our little man won't stay asleep during the day if we lay him down most of the time. The best way to get him to stay asleep during naps is to put him in his chair with the vibrations on. We think he has a reflux problem so is he is kind of sitting then he has fewer problems. The back of the seat is adjustable. It has two settings. Right now we keep it all the way back so that he isn't sitting straight up. If you put the back all the way up, it almost sits straight up.
I love how the toy bar is removable. We kept it off up until recently when he started getting interested in looking at toys. He really isn't playing with them yet but he looks at them and smiles and "talks" to them. He likes the music the cow plays and loves anything that rattles. Sometimes he gets excited about something and starts kicking and squealing which makes the toys bounce around and he loves it. Every once in a while, he will smack one around but I think that's by accident. The toys hang low enough so that he can see them and by the time he does actually start reaching for toys, he will be able to grab them very easily.
This chair can be used from birth up until your toddler reaches 40 pounds. For toddlers, this chair can be used as a rocker. Even though it can grow with you child that long, in my opinion, there comes a point where I think you should stop using it for a while. After seeing my nephew in this chair all the time and even though our son is only 2 months old, you really shouldn't use it once your child starts sitting on their own especially when they figure out how to move al lot more. Even just using this chair with our little guy, I can easily tell this wouldn't be suitable for more active babies that wouldn't know how to stop themselves if they fell out of the chair because they wanted to get out or sit more by themselves while in it. I can see our guy hurting himself if we still use it at that age. By that time, I would hold off until he/she is a little older to use it as a toddler rocker.
I like everything about this chair. It's a lot better than bouncy seats and you can use it so much longer. I'm not sure if you can buy this particular design anymore but they still sell the Fisher Price Infant to Toddler Rocker Chairs. I recommend getting one of these over buying a bouncy seat. It last much longer and you get a lot more use out of it!
