Pros: Works to soothe my colicky baby. Cute colors.
Cons: Price is a little steep, but worth it.
I have a 6 week old baby that is very colicky. He is a dear baby but
cries a lot. I feed him and he cries right after and cries before and
just cries. I have not slept in a month and a half. I am up all night
with my sweet baby. I asked my husband if we could get the baby a
swing that will work. We have a swing that we use and it just makes
the baby worse. There is also a swing at church, different that the
one we have at home that also does not sooth my baby. I just know
that there has to be a swing that will sooth the baby. If not a swing
I researched swings and found one that I thought might do the trick.
I went to Target.com and found a “lil lamb Fisher-Price Papasan
Cradle Swing. I thought “wow, it has music and a mobile and
everything.” I also love the fact that it has 3 different swing
settings. You can swing this like a cradle verses back and forth. I
have had swings that swing back and forth years ago for my other 2
kids and when they are very young their heads tend to bob too
much in a swing like that. I love the papas an style too. It seems to
be the most comfortable for a very young child. It looks cozy
enough for me even! Wish they had something like this for adults.
We checked the availability of it in stores near us and even called
the stores to be sure they actually had the swing before heading
out. One store did not have it even though the website said that
they did but another store did have two. We went out that
afternoon and purchased the swing. It was $149.00 plus tax which
brought it to $160. Yikes! Steep! But, we figure if it does not work
we will take it back. It will be worth the money if it works. I have
not been able to even get dishes done or dinner completed or even
go to the bathroom without a baby screaming.
We got the swing home and my husband assembled it. It was an
easy assemble. It took him about 10 minutes and my 9-year old son
helped out. We put the baby into the very soft, plush seat and he
seemed to take to it right away. We strapped him in with the waist
straps and then put the tray onto it. Would not recommend not
putting the tray onto the swing. There are no shoulder harnesses
and that could be a dangerous thing without the tray. The tray has
some hand/eye coordination toys on it. A couple little toys that slide
from side to side on each side of the tray. There is also a little lamb
plush rattle in the center that is attached with a ribbon. To be
honest my son does not even notice the tray toys yet but he is
young. There is a mobile that hangs above the baby’s head. It has a
mirror in the center for the baby to look up and see his image in it.
My son has caught sight of his image a couple times and it
fascinates him. The mobile can be turned on or off. At night when
my son is in the swing and my husband and I want a little cuddle
time we do not even bother with the mobile turning as the lights are
dim in the living room and the bay will not even see it. There are
settings on it that have nature sounds like frogs and birds and the
ocean. There is one with all the nature sounds mixed with some
soothing music. The music has a volume setting on it as well. We
play this at night.
There are 6 speed settings on the swing. The lowest setting is a little
fast and we have had friends say that it was too fast for them but
as the children got older and heavier they went up in the settings
because the weight of the child slows the speed down. Thus the
reason for the 6 settings. I feel the lowest setting is not bad but if
you do want to slow it down a bit the directions that come with the
swing say to hang a blanket onto the back of the swing bar and that
will slow it down. I did this to see what happens and it did slow it
down to a slower pace but I think the motor will probably work
harder and thus waste the batteries faster.
The swing takes 4 D batteries. The batteries cost me $7 but are
holding out well. I use the swing a lot. By a lot I mean 3-4 times a
day for at least an hour to an hour and half each time. I can get my
exercising in and dinner done and cuddle time with the hubby. In
fact I slept on the couch one night for the first time in awhile for
about 3 hours, alone!! Usually the baby will only be soothed by
sleeping on my chest and it is hard to sleep that way on the couch.
(I tend to keep the baby in the living room as not to disturb the rest
of the family with his crying) My neck kinks up and everything. After
purchasing this swing I have been able to regain my sanity a bit and
my blood pressure resume to normal.
I notice that there is a clicking sound that the swing makes and it is
a tad loud but after awhile you do not even notice it. When you
have the sounds or music on you do not notice it much at all. I think
it also soothes the baby with the repetitive clicking sound. Hey if it
does not bother the baby then I am good.
The colors are very neutral and it looks nice in the living room. If you
are looking for bright primary colors to capture the attention of your
baby then this is not for you. The colors are muted and subtle.
The base is stable and has a wide angle to the stance. It is very
sturdy and safe. I have heard of people putting their kids in this
swing and going to bed and having the baby sleep in this swing. I am
sure the baby would sleep all night in this but in my opinion I would
not do this. I slept on my couch about 2 feet away from the swing
when I did this and it was only for 3 hours. I would not let my baby
sleep in it all night because ot me that is just no safe. I do not think
this swing is unsafe but you can never be too careful when it comes
to your baby.
Like I mentioned before my baby is colicky. He also spits up a lot.
When I put him in this swing he seems content and doe s not cry
much at all in it. He will start to cry at time and I look at the clock
and realize it is time to eat and of course no swing will fix the hunger
pains of a growing baby. J I also noticed that his spitting up is
decreased significantly. He spits up a very small amount right after
eating but not the fountains that he used to do. I like that even
though he is reclined he is still in an upright position. The
pediatrician said that he is to be in an upright position for at least 30
minutes after eating. This is perfect for night time feeding when I
have to sit up with him for at least 30 minutes after eating. This
sooths him enough that I can actually go to bed after the 30
minutes since the bay is now lulled into dream land. I carefully get
him out pf the swing and put him into the bassinet. It’s great!
