hannahmont's Full Review: Fisher Price Lil Laugh & Learn Bouncer
We live in a small place and didn't want to have a lot of baby gear around, but we knew we'd need somewhere to put the little one when she wasn't sleeping or we weren't wearing her in the sling or wrap. We chose the Fisher Price Lil Laugh and Learn bouncer and are incredibly happy with our choice.
APPEARANCE: The bright blue seat isn't as gaudy looking as I thought it would be. Although it is blue, it's not particularly boy-ish, so if someone is worried about whether or not it's appropriate for a girl, you should be fine with this (unless you're totally into pink and purple). The removable arch of toys that goes over the seat is pretty busy looking, but the colors were chosen well by the designers and it's actually pretty cute. The animals that hang from the arch don't exactly look like what they're supposed to be, but whatever, they're cute! It's not very big and doesn't take up a huge amount of room wherever you have it.
VIBRATION SETTING: It's a gently vibration and doesn't make much noise. This is good, but it can also be a problem if you forget to turn the vibration setting off because you can't really hear it if it's on. When our little one was very small, the vibration was a great way to soothe her. We don't use it much now that's she's older. We would remove the arch of toys and she would just chill in the bouncer with the vibration turned on.
NOISE/SONGS: There are three song settings and two volume settings. We never use the louder volume setting as the quieter one is perfectly adequate for all times. We expected it would be loud and annoying, but it's actually pretty quiet. I think the designer realized that the baby would be right there by the speaker, so the volume doesn't need to be super loud. The three song settings are: 1. songs with words are triggered by movement of the toys hanging from the arch, 2. music without words is triggered by movement of toys and 3. songs with words just play on and on and on and on.....We usually just use the music without words settings. Occasionally, we turn on the words and we never use the third setting because it becomes incredibly annoying very fast. I think it would probably over stimulate the baby anyway. She learned early on that she can kick the toys to get the music to start. Pretty cool :-)
ARCH OF TOYS: There is a dog in the middle whose head is mounted on a spring so it bounces around. A bumble bee and a sun are set on either side of the dog. They light up and the bumble bee is on a spring. There are two animals hanging from the arch - we believe they are a cat and a bunny, but one could also be a raccoon. But, the song lyrics never mention a raccoon.....
The arch is removable by pulling on the plastic clips on either side. It's a bit tricky to remove and sometimes it pops out really fast and if you're not holding it, it will fall down on baby's face. I learned quickly though and now I make sure I put my elbow in front of the arch before removing it. Attaching the arch is easy. The two ends that you insert are different shaped (one is a circle and one a square), so you'll never have to question which side is the front.
EASE OF USE: It's easy to get the baby in and out, even with the arch of toys attached. The three point harness is just like all others you've seen on this type of baby gadget. We used a shaped head cushion thing in the beginning when she had little head control. The bouncer is quite flat and offers no support for newborns. The bouncer is light and relatively easy to move around the house. We have also disassembled it a few times for when we've traveled. Assembly is easy and takes just a few minutes. The cover is machine washable and has held up during the few washings that we've done. Changing the battery is a bit annoying because the cover is in the way, but it's not a big deal and the batteries last quite a while.
