jubrismom's Full Review: Fisher Price Rainforest Cradle Swing
We purchased the Fisher Price Rainforest Cradle Swing to use with our newborn baby girl. We looked at the swings available and decided upon this one due to its bright colors, adjustable seat, and the fact that you can plug it into the wall.
Assembly: Assembling the swing was fairly easy. The instruction were easy to follow. My 10 year old daughter and I managed it quite quickly-about 10 minutes. It was helpful to have a second person to hold onto parts while joining all the pieces together, but this could be accomplished by one person.
Appearance: The swing is brightly colored with lots colors. The colors work well for a boy or a girl. This swing stands approx. 40inches tall, and the base is approx. 35 inches wide.
The Base: The swing base is slightly larger than a traditional swing base. This does allow for stability of the swing. The base remains steady when the swing is in motion. It does require a little bit of extra space to fit into though. When accidently bumped into the swing has no problem maintaining it's position.
The Seat: The seat is covered in brightly covered fabric. It can easily be removed for washing. Very important with a small child. The fabric has not faded at all depite the weekly washings we put it through. There is a "pillow" built into the seat fabric for the babies head. The seat has two recline positions. Both positions are more of a semi-reclined position than a fully reclined or fully upright position. The more reclined position works great still with my 4 month old. Between the recline and the pillow she has fit comfortably in the swing from 6 lbs to 13 lbs. There is a restraint to keep the baby in the swing. Built into the seat fabric is the piece that comes up between the babies legs. It is soft and brightly colored The straps for around the waist thread through the seat cover. The straps snap into each other well and are easy to release. Built into the plastic molding of the seat is an additional portion that comes up between the babies legs. This helps to make sure the baby does not slip out the bottom of the swing. The seat also has a plastic tray that comes down over the babies lap. At this point we have no use for the tray. The tray clips weakly into the side of the swing seat. Our baby at 3 months could kick her legs up enough to cause the tray to come up and back down on her. It hasn't hurt her but still you'd think it could snap down more securely.
Seat Positions: I'm putting this in it's own category because it's one of the swings best features. The seat can easily be swiveled to allow the baby to swing front and back, or to swing side to side. This is great for changing the babies perspective. If she starts to get bored swinging and I need a couple more minutes to finish something up I can turn the swing seat to the other position and she is instantly entertained again. Also, while my baby prefers to swing side to side, my SIL's baby prefers to swing front to back so you can adjust it to your babies preference.
The Mobile: The swing includes it's very own rainforest themed mobile. It is brightly colored and really catches the attention of my baby. Rotating around the mobile are 3 leaves, a toucan, a frog, and a monky. The animals are plush, stuffed animal like creatures, with bright colors. The leaves are more velvetty and go up and down throught the animals as the animals circle around. The mobile has an arm that allows you to push it up out of the way when putting the baby in the swing or taking the baby out of the swing. No bumped heads! This arm can be pushed above the swing or back behind the swing. Make sure no one is on the other side of the swing or they could get hit by the arm.
The Settings: Above the swing, there is a control center for the swing. The base, the mobile, and the swing all are attached to the settings controller. This housed the motor, swing, and mobile. On the back of the base is a switch for powering the swing with batteries or by plugging it in. Just flip the switch to the appropriate setting and your all set. On the front of the swing you can adjust the swing speed, music, volume, and mobile. The swing has 7 swinging speed settings from off to maximum. All the settings take a minute to get started. We just give the swing a little push and kicks right in. The motor was very quiet at first, but as the baby grows we can hear it working a little more. Still not loud though. There are four music settings including music and nature sounds. The volume can be adjusted to two different settings also. There is also a button to switch to turn on the mobile.
Extra Features: Below the control center a piece of fabric is attached to the legs of the base. This covers up the area where the bar that connects the swing to the control center is attached. It also make the swing cuter. By pushing a button on the back support bar the swing can be folded down into a slightly smaller position for storage.
Conclusion: We love this swing! Not having to buy batteries is probably one of the number one reasons, but the main reason we love this swing is our baby loves this swing! It's great to be able to put her down someplace safe and entertaining while I make dinner or work with one of our children. The swing away mobile is also a plus for us too. We only paid around $100 for this swing which is another big plus. Definetely recommend this swing.
