| pippadaisy's Full Review: Fisher-Price Rescue Heroes Bi-Pod Jet |
My three-year-old son Buster has a veritable ton of Rescue Heroes, and for the most part, he is happy with his little collection. Every so often, though, he goes to our neighbor's house (with a five-year-old) or my nephews' house (one six-year-old and one 4½-year-old) and finds one Rescue Heroes item he doesn't have that he covets. He was really excited when his aunt got him the Fisher-Price Rescue Heroes Bi-Pod Jet that he'd been trying to steal from our neighbors for months.
::: Leavin' on a Jet Plane :::
The Fisher-Price Rescue Heroes Bi-Pod Jet actually comes in two versions: one with a figure included, and one without. Ours is the version without, but the other comes with yet another Billy Blazes figure, and since we have at least three kicking around here somewhere, I don't think Buster really minded at all.
The Fisher-Price Rescue Heroes Bi-Pod Jet itself is approximately 16 inches long, 13 inches wide, and 7¾ inches tall to the top of its handle in flight mode. The plane is a dark teal color with black, silver, and neon orange accents, and has stickers applied that say "QRV23" and show the exhausts and Rescue Heroes logos on the wings. As with most of the Rescue Heroes vehicles, the cockpit has no actual steering wheel or controls, but the seat back does have a slot for a figure to be "connected" via their backpack tab so that he or she doesn't fall out when flying.
Assembly was very easy; all that had to be done once the plane was removed from the box was to attach the handle, which serves two purposes: allowing your child to make the airplane fly without holding onto the plane itself, and deploying the "legs" for the bi-pod feature. Pressing the neon orange button deploys two large dark teal feet on silver legs, which allow the Fisher-Price Rescue Heroes Bi-Pod Jet to stand on the legs. Two "claws" can also be folded out from under the hose of the plane, and they are silver with neon orange clamps. The claws open and close by means of a lever on each one.
::: Da Plane, Mama! :::
I was unfortunately out of commission for Buster's birthday party, which my parents were generous enough to have at their house because I've been ill. When Buster returned with all his birthday loot, he immediately brought the Fisher-Price Rescue Heroes Bi-Pod Jet in the box back to me and demanded it be opened immediately. For approximately 48 hours, that was the only toy he played with, and I've actually had to take it away several times when he has decided that Billy Blazes needed to fly to the dinner table and perch on the edge of his plate. About half the time, the Fisher-Price Rescue Heroes Bi-Pod Jet goes to bed along with Buster as well.
In terms of durability, I know that our neighbor has had his for over six months and it still looks brand-new. One of the nicest things about the Fisher-Price Rescue Heroes Bi-Pod Jet is that it doesn't require batteries, and aside from deploying the legs and claws, there aren't very many moving parts, and no small pieces to lose. It works totally on kid power, and since the main body is all one piece, with the only add-ons being the handle, black pieces on the wings, and the pieces that deploy, even if the legs and claws were to snap off and break, the plane would still be usable, always a bonus when you have two boys fighting over toys.
It's a decent price for a well-built toy, and it's already earned its keep in the amount of play time it's gotten.
