Pros: It's Rescue Heroes; Two buttons to press and launch stuff
Cons: Raft doesn't float; Nowhere for storing Hero's backpacks
The Bottom Line: This is a great vehicle, but I believe there are more exciting choices in the collection that would receive more playtime.

| neosmom's Full Review: Fisher Price Rescue Heroes: Dune Buggy |
My son has accumulated quite a collection of Rescue Heroes since Christmas. He just can't get enough of them. This Dune Buggy was one of his first vehicles (the fire truck was the other), and he got a few figures and animals to round off the start of the collection.
The reason that the dune buggy was one of the first purchases was purely by request of my son. He insisted that this was the toy he wanted. Although it is a solid and durable toy with different things to do, and it got a good amount of playtime in the beginning, it has fallen by the wayside as more exciting vehicles have arrived.
This vehicle comes with a life raft that snaps in underneath the car. It is sort of hidden away and very surprising when it is launched if you didn't know it was there. On the "spoiler" there is a launcher. I have a little difficulty with this piece because it comes off easily and I always end up pressing the button and launching toys across the room when I'm trying to put it back together and help clean up the play area. Then we are on a search for the launched item. :-) The launched item is actually a really cool concept. It is an air tank that has a mask attached to it. There is a short "string" attaching the mask to the tank. The mask has elastic so it can be neatly wrapped around the tank, or a Rescue Hero can wear it. This is what I find to be particularly cool. However, my son (about to turn 3) can't get the mask on the figures. Since he doesn't usually try, I don't really think about it much. The dune buggy is set up for one hero to ride in the driver's seat and another can hang on the back. He stands up and holds on to these two posts. It rather looks like he is ready to push the launcher.
The fact of the matter is that although this is a really cool car with it's life raft and stuff, it's tough for it to compete with the high-tech vehicles that make noises and talk for the figures. Every once in a while I see my son driving this vehicle across the house for a big rescue, but more often it is one of the other vehicles that is called upon.
I think I will have to post a follow up on this review in a few months after I see how well this car does in the long term.
