| pippadaisy's Full Review: Fisher-Price Rescue Heroes Robotz Movie Team Billy... |
After our Christmas debacle with the Rescue Heroes Walkie-Talkies, Fisher-Price sent my son a $14 voucher to use on another Mattel-owned product. What else would Buster pick but more Rescue Heroes, so on a trip to Target, we picked up two more, the favorite being Fisher-Price Rescue Heroes Robotz Movie Team Billy Blazes & Firestomper.
::: The Newest Firefighting Team :::
The Fisher-Price Rescue Heroes Robotz Movie Team Billy Blazes & Firestomper actually consists of two figures: Billy and his robotic firefighting pal Firestomper, now known in our house as Bobot. Billy has a new color scheme here, with what appears to be black "under" gear with neon orange, dark silver,and silver accessories and trim. His gloves are neon orange, and he has a fire axe on his belt. On his back is a black connector for a backpack (which is once again not included, and he has a red circle in center of breastplate of the "overgear."
Firestomper has the same color scheme as Billy in reverse. He has a neon orange body with black, dark silver, silver, and red accents, and a small green "eye" on top. He has four arced leg mechanisms (for eight legs), and requires 2 "AA" batteries. When you press a small red button on his body, Firestomper crawls along on his spider-like legs while making a sort of musical-marching sound I can't quite put my finger on to describe. will go over some items, but mostly backs up. makes a strange musical-marching sound. speaker in center of item.
On the front of the box, you will also find a removable lenticular card showing Firestomper walking, as well as the Rescue Heroes logo.
::: Bobot Goes Everywhere :::
Until the arrival of Fisher-Price Rescue Heroes Robotz Movie Team Billy Blazes & Firestomper, Buster's favorite Rescue Hero was his Mission Select Billy Blazes, but thie new pair has won top billing at bedtime. Buster goes NOWHERE without Bobot and Billy and woe betide the parent who can't immediately locate them.
Billy himself is pretty boring, and has caused a ruckus yet again. When will Fisher-Price learn that these figures MUST COME WITH BACKPACKS? Every time a new one shows up without a backpack, Buster has a fit. The older residents won't share with the newer ones and Rescue Heroes MUST have a MATCHING backpack on in our house.
As for Firestomper, he's cute, but he's not all that and a bag of chips. For one, he is way louder than he needs to be. I tried my old "tape over the speaker" trick, but Buster isn't going for that, and I hear that weird noise all day long, and half the night. Part of me wonders if it isn't some sort of subliminal message from Fisher-Price insisting that my boy needs more of their stuff. He also doesn't creep along for very long... maybe 5 or 10 seconds. Then you have to hit the button again. While I appreciate the battery conservation effort, he often ends up on his back after trying to climb up a pile of assorted something-or-other, and this upsets Buster.
One final caveat: the recommended age is three and up, but of all the Rescue Heroes items we own, this one requires supervision. Little kid fingers can get caught in the moving legs, and Buster has aleady learned his lesson to NOT pick Bobot up while he's walking. There is no automatic reverse, so it will take an adult to help extricate the finger if this happens.
::: Overall :::
I have to side with Buster on this one. Finally, a cool paint job, and interesting concept make this one my favorite Rescue Hero as well. If they had just included a backpack and somehow kept little fingers out of the moving parts, it would have been a five-star toy.
