  • User Rating: Excellent
  • Durability:
Pros:durable, colorful, inexpensive, educational, provides hours of playtime.
Cons:rings can get caught on wrists and ankles of older kids.
The Bottom Line: The Rock-A-Stack is easy to find and will provide your little one hours of enjoyment and you hours of rest and relaxation.

My daughter Jordan got the Fisher Price Rock-A-Stack over a year ago as a Christmas gift from her grandparents. She is now 14-months old and enjoys it more then ever. Jordan was only 6 weeks old when she got the toy, but the Rock-A-Stack is one of those got to have it “classic” toys no infant should be without. I had one when I was little and wanted my daughter to experience the fun you can have with an inexpensive, but durable and fun toy that provides hours of entertainment.

The Rock-A-Stack consists of a durable, bright yellow post that is wider at the bottom and gradually gets smaller as it goes up. The post is attached to a removal, durable white base that is slightly curved on the bottom so it rocks gently back and forth when your infant touches it, making it more of a challenge getting the rings on the yellow post. The durable rings come in five different colors, from largest to smallest they are red, orange, yellow, green and blue. The rings are shaped like donuts and are made of durable, bendable, soft plastic.

Since the post isn’t all one size it can be frustrating for younger children who want to put the rings on the post in any order they want and the rings don’t go all the way down. They don’t yet understand the rings have to go on the post from largest to smallest in order for them to fit properly.

Jordan got frustrated with it a few times when I first introduced the Rock-A-Stack to her at around 6-months old. She would throw the rings and the base around when the rings didn’t go all the way down on the post and start crying. After showing her how the rings go on she finally got the hang of it. Now she puts the rings on anyway she wants and doesn’t care if they don’t go down to the bottom when the rings are put in the wrong order.

Once she got the hang of putting the rings on and taking them back off I started to teach her colors and which ring goes on next, from largest to smallest. If I asked her to “Give me the red ring” she hands me the red ring. She even knows how to put the rings on in the correct order so they all fit. Of course Jordan would much rather throw them around the house or chew on them. Since the rings are a soft plastic (non-toxic) they can be used as a teether to soothe sore gums or just so they have something to chew on. If I put one of the rings on Jordan’s head she’ll take it off and then put it back on her head or put it on your head.

The rings are also great bath toys that float in the water without sinking to the bottom of the tub. The dry of easily and the rings are completely closed so no water can get inside the rings to cause a buildup of mildew. When my daughter was 6 months old she fit the largest ring around her wrist as a bracelet. Now if she tried it would probably get stuck. I don’t recommend putting them around your ankle or wrist because they could get stuck and are hard to get off!

The Fisher Price Rock-A-Stack Stack is easy to keep clean. You can soak the parts in warm soapy water or wipe them clean with a damp cloth The Rock-A-Stack consists of 6 parts (7 if you take the post and base apart). The pieces are large enough so they won’t cause a choking hazard and aren’t easily lost.

The Rock-A-Stack is a great toy to teach your little one colors, hand and eye coordination, how things fit and size differential. The bright colors are great for attracting babies’ attention.

I recommend the Fisher Price Rock-A-Stack to anyone who has kids in the family. It is an inexpensive toy that will provide your little one will hours of entertainment. They’re durable so you can keep it for future kids and even those grandkids you’ll have some day. We've had the Rock-A-Stack for 13 months now and it's still in great shape, with the exception of a few teeth marks on the rings. The colors are bright and cheery as ever.
