| mommykd's Full Review: Fisher-Price Sesame Street Activity Atom Toy |
I know Oscar is a Grouch, but is he also a crack head? You have to listen carefully, for when Oscar says "I Love Trash", your ears might deceive you! When I first brought the Fisher Price Sesame Street Activity Atom home, I had to convince my husband that Oscar the Grouch was not proclaiming to love crack, but rather trash. He still swears it sounds like Oscar is a druggie! Fortunately, the kids understand a little more about Sesame Street and know that good ole Oscar is just a trash man.
The Fisher Price Sesame Street Activity Atom is one of the new line of baby discovery/exploration toys from Fisher Price and Sesame Street. The activity atom fits into its own base for suspended play, and is removable for hand held play. It is designed to help baby reach developmental milestones, such as: Fine motor skills: Grasping, finger grasping, Gross Motor Skills: Holding, two hand transfer, twisting/turning, Sensory Skills: Auditory and visual stimulation, and visual tracking, Cognitive skills: Auditory and Visual discrimination, exploration with hands multiple ways, anticipation of surprises and actions, understanding cause and effect.
Whoa! This is fun! Cowabunga!
Just some of the fun sounds from the activity atom. Spin it and it lights up in strobe like fashion and makes a sound or one of the characters says a phrase. You are going to have to rely pretty heavily on the picture for a physical description. It's a ball shaped center with different activities such as pulling, pushing and twisting, and an Elmo spinning face that talks. Each activity has a fun sound. Attached to the center of the atom are clear plastic lines which also have the round ball shaped faces of Cookie Monster, Oscar, Ernie and Big Bird. The lines that suspend the balls light up when the atom is turned almost like strobe lights and play fun, spunky music. I will admit that it is hard to describe this toy. Just know that there are many noisy activities to keep your little one entertained.
I love trash! Scram! Wheee! Great! This is fun! HaHaHa! Oh Boy!
Here - Play with this!
While shopping at Target one evening, it was getting close to Kason's bedtime, and I still had some shopping to do, so I just grabbed this off the shelf and put it in the buggy with him. I was thinking he could play with it until I got to the checkout, I'd leave it with the cashier, and he'd never know the difference. Fortunately, unlike his older sister, he's still young enough for this to work.....usually. Well, as soon as he started spinning it and the sounds started, I began to feel guilty that I was teasing him. It was cute, and it did keep him entertained for another 15 minutes while I finished shopping. Still, I hadn't planned on an additional $20 purchase, so I took it away from him when we got to the checkout. I was prepared for the crying , but was not prepared for the actually asking for the toy. NO! NO! NO! as loud as his little lungs could scream. OK, Mommy's a sucker - and it was on sale for $12.99.
At home play
The activity atom has been played with every day since we purchased it - at least from some member of the family. The baby and the 3 1/2 year old play with it, and I've even caught the cats batting it around too when it's on the base.
Blast me into orbit - please!
It's very entertaining for baby. It isn't very educational as far as teaching letters, numbers, colors, shapes, etc., but sometimes fun is what toys should be about. It's cute, makes different sounds and actions, and encourages all sorts of developmental play. However, there is no volume control, and no on/off switch. Also, when removed from the base, the atom is somewhat heavy for baby to hold.
Requires 3 AA Batteries - included!
