I purchased the Sesame Street Lights & Levers Lab for my younger daughter Madelyn (now 7 months) this past Christmas. I was looking for something a little “different” since my children are now accumulating such a ridiculous amount of toys. I was immediately intrigued by this toy!

The Sesame Street Lights & Levers Lab is recommended for ages 9 months and up, and retails for $14.99. It requires 3 AA batteries, included (screwdriver required for battery replacement). Even before I took it out of the box, both of my daughters were hypnotized by this toy!

There are 6 different activities for baby’s pleasure: Big Bird - Turn the yellow dial and Big Birds says “Hi” and laughs
Elmo - Slide the yellow “bead” and Elmo says “Yippee!”
Ernie - Push the orange button to one side and Ernie says “Yeah!”
Cookie Monster - Turn the blue piece and Cookie Monster says “Yum yum yum!”
Oscar the Grouch - Roll the ball with Oscar’s face on it and he says “Oh yeah!”

After each saying, futuristic/outer space-style sound effects play. Baby also has the option of just pushing the green center button to hear sound effects and see lights.

The Sesame Street Lights & Levers Lab is a great tool for teaching hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills. While I bought this for my younger daughter (who is still below the age recommendation), my older daughter Miranda (now 19 months) seems to be more interested in it. Madelyn does enjoy watching her sister play with it, but she is still too young to be able to manipulate the different activities very well.

It is a bit too large to fit comfortably into baby’s lap, particularly if they are in the younger range of age-appropriateness. The Sesame Street Lights & Levers Lab is rather loud, and there is no volume control.

That being said, I am still very happy with my purchase of the Sesame Street Lights & Levers Lab. It is an excellent value, and a great addition to your child’s toy collection that provides something a little off-beat, fun and educational.
