| Kissikins's Full Review: Fisher Price Tape Recorder |
Fisher Price has a reputation for quality children's toy's
and the tape recorder has held true to the reputation.
My daughter got this tape recorder for her 4th birthday
present which was in July, this is now October, and as
with all noisy toy's, the batteries have held up strong!
Description
Brightly colored in red, blue, yellow, orange and green,
I'm guessing so you can't use the excuse that you ran over
it with the car due to lack of seeing it..boy them fisher price
people think of it all don't they?
The recorder has a sturdy handle with small bumps molded
into the plastic to ensure a secure grip. I have seen my
child drop it 1 or 100 times so I don't believe that feature
keep's it from being dropped. However, it does seem to
help them keep a firm grip when bopping the family pet
over the head, maybe that is more determination on the child's
part than fisher price's good design. You decide.
At the bottom of the handle is the volume control, I think
my child got one that is broken, because her's only work's
on full blast . The volume control also contain's
nodules in the plastic knob for a firmer grip.
The back of the recorder has a storage caddy for holding
the microphone.I must say it does hold the microphone nicely
and it can be removed with ease, just by pulling on it.
My child doesn't seem to care for putting the microphone back
in it's proper place, so for the most part it just dangles
on the ground when not in use. However it makes it handy
for me to drag it to the bedroom with it's stretchy pig tail
cord.
The microphone has a large green button on it which is
to be held in when the child want's to sing along, and do
they ever want to sing along! Personally I feel the cord
is slightly too long, risking injury or death if wrapped
around a child or pet's neck.
The function button's are large and colorful, consist of
eject, play, fast forward, rewind and stop. The thing I find
disappointing is, the fast forward and rewind button's must
be held, you can't just push them and fast forward , you have
to hold them and do it manually. I'm guessing there is
some sort of educational or motor control reason behind
this, but unsure of what it is.
The window where the cassette is held is clear and a picture
of how the cassette is to be inserted is right there, to
help your child remember which way the tape goes in.
My child uses her own method of cramming the tape every
which way until it fit's.
Optional
The Fisher Price recorder runs on 4 C batteries, but
does have the option for you to plug in a 6.0 v dc only
adapter which you would have to purchase. There is also
a headphone jack if you wish to use headphone's. Personally
I find cotton ball's to be cheaper than headphone's and
that is what I use *grin*.
The finale
The Fisher Price Recorder has held up to any expectation
I could of had for it. It has brought hour's of enjoyment
to not only my 4 year old, but her 7 year old brother as well.
Normally I would invest in a ac adapter because batteries
die so quickly in toy's, but as with any toy that you
wish would run out of juice, this one just keep's going
and going.
I used my sarcastic humor in this review but in all honesty
I am glad this was purchased for my daughter.
I recommend this toy for any child age 3 or higher, but
suggest if your child is one to be a bit ornery to watch
out for the cord on the recorder for safety reason's.
