| JENNI1396's Full Review: Fisher Price Tape Recorder |
I bought the Fisher Price Tape Recorder when my now 4 year old daughter was only 3 months old, mostly to play some of her lullaby tapes to help her fall asleep at night.
The Fisher Price Tape Recorder also came in handy when Jordan was younger when I was busy doing dishes, laundry or other chores, I would put in one of Jordan's tapes, so she would have music or a taped book to listen, instead of putting the t.v on for background "noise".
I have the next superstar right here
Now at 4 years old, she uses it to tape herself with the bright red attached microphone, singing songs she learned at daycare or talks about anything, so she can hear her own voice when she plays it back. When the microphone is not in use, there is a place on the back to keep the microphone. The microphone is attached by a yellow cord. Be careful with younger kids, so they don't get strangled by the cord.
Also in the back is a small area to hold one tape.
Jordan loves being a little superstar, singing and dancing all over the house, carrying her tape recorder with her. The handle is the perfect size for tiny hands to grab a hold of.
Even when Jordan was an infant she loved to listen to music to help her fall asleep and would cry when the tape was over. Even though she couldn't walk when I first bought the tape recorder, she loved to "dance" to the music.
Another thing Jordan loved when she was younger, was when I would tape her babbling and cooing and play it back to her. Jordan would laugh and keep looking around for the other baby in the room.
Story time at grandma's tonight
I've also used the tape recorder to tape some of Jordan's favorite story books, so when she stays at grandma's house, she can hear me reading her stories. When she was younger, this worked out great with the separation anxiety infants feel when away from their primary caregivers for short or long periods of time. I would also have other family members tape some bedtime stories, so she could hear more familiar voices.
I like that the Fisher Price Tape Recorder is portable, so you can carry it anywhere. At night I put it on the dresser until she falls asleep into dreamland. On the bottom there are two rubber feet, one on each side, this helps the tape player stay in place and not fall over that easily.
Play that music and dance to you just can't dance no more
The Fisher Price Tape Recorder measures about 8 inches high and 12 inches long and is made out of a durable molded plastic, with rubberized sides to keep it from scratching anything that gets hit with it. The rounded sides are also great, so little ones don't get hurt if it bumps into their legs when carrying the recorder around.
No matter how much the The Fisher Price Tape Recorder gets thrown around it is still looks like new, mine does have normal wear and tear on it after 3 1/2 years.
The big colorful, color coded buttons (about 1 inch) are a plus for little hands to use.
From left to right the buttons are..
The stop/eject button is bright red. When the tape deck opens, there is a picture of a tape inside that shows younger ones what way to put the tape in.
The play button is bright green and has a musical note painted on it.
The forward/rewind buttons are bright yellow with arrows pointing left or right. I don't know if it's just Jordan's recorder or all of them, but when Jordan wants to fast forward or rewind one of her tapes, she has to hold the buttons down.
The record button is blue with a picture of a microphone on it.
Most of the pictures have worn off after 3 1/2 years of use, but the buttons still work.
On the right side of the player, there is a yellow volume button. If you turn up the volume to loud, the sound quality isn't as great, but again it is only a toy and Jordan doesn't seem to be bothered by it. The speaker is on the front left side
Take care of your music, and it will always take care of you
The Fisher Price Tape Recorder is easy to clean using a damp cloth. One bad thing is the Fisher Price Tape Recorder goes through a lot of batteries. The battery compartment is on the bottom and is securely closed with screws. You will need a screwdriver to change the batteries. The Fisher Price Tape Recorder takes 4 C batteries. One plus is there is a place to plug in an adapter, which does not come with it. With out the adapter Jordan goes through batteries every 3 to 4 months.
Recommendations
I recommend the Fisher Price Tape Recorder to all new parents or for older children. It is a big help at getting babies to sleep, they can listen to their favorite books on tape. Once they get older they will love using the microphone to tape themselves singing. The Fisher Price Tape Recorder is durable, so it will withstand any thing your toddler or older child will do to it. Let your toddler be the "star" they always wanted to be with the Fisher Price Tape Recorder.
