| mommyknowsbest's Full Review: Fisher Price The Farmer Says See 'n Say |
Like most adults I know around my age I had a See'N Say when I was a kid, they were big & bulky and had a string that you pulled to make it work. They were basically the same when my oldest daughter was born, the string with the little ring attached was hard to pull when she was little so it was I who ended up pulling it over and over and over again. But, it was a cool and yes even educational toy so we held on to it and 5 years later her little sister loved it as well. And yet again I was back to string pulling.
Four years later when I had my third child the See'N Say that my first two children has played with was long gone. The string had been pulled so many times it just plain wore out so the grandparents when in search of a new one for baby number three. The See'N Say they found was a little different. It was still large and bulky but this one has a lever that you pulled down on the side that made the arrow spin so baby number three could also hear what the cow says. But...although the lever was a great change to the product it was hard for my little one to steady the big bulky See'N Say while pulling down the lever so I did the job...once again.
Well, in my mind the third child was my last so when he was done with the See'n Say it was given away. Then surprise surprise six years later I was pregnant AGAIN!!! When this new little one's first Christmas was coming up the grandparents once again went in search of a See'N Say for him and once again I resigned myself to filling my free time with pulling the lever and listening to the sounds of all the barnyard animals. On Christmas morning I was more than pleasantly surprised when my little man opened this gift! Someone shrunk the See'N Say!
The new See'N Say is about half the size of the older version. The one he received is "The Farmer Says" and measures approximately 8" x 8". The toy itself is shaped to resemble a red barn and the handle of the bright yellow lever is the sun with a big smile on it. Not only is the new version of this classic toy smaller but it has more features. You can still point the arrow in the middle to the animal and hear the sound it makes but now you can also point it to "quiz" and the Farmer will ask you if you can find the animal that makes a particular sound. There is also a space where you can point the arrow to "song" and the Farmer will sing "The Farmer in the Dell". If that were not enough one side of the ring of animals will flip to the right and there are new animals for your child to learn, another space labeled "quiz" and another space labeled "song" where the Farmer will sing "Old MacDonald". Best of all my little one can pull the lever on this toy himself! It is small enough that he does not have to wrestle with it while he is trying to pull the lever and light enough that he carries it EVERYWHERE with him. It will fit in his backpack diaper bag and has made more than one road trip with our family.
The animals and their sounds that are included on "The Farmer Says" See'N Say are:
Cat
Bunny
Owl
Chick
Goat
Mouse
Turkey
Goose
Sheep
Rooster
Pig
Cow
Duck
Horse
Frog
and Dog
The new toy does require three AA batteries but they were included and have lasted a long time.
I would highly recommend this toy to any parent or anyone that was looking for a great educational gift for a young child.
