| JEA115's Full Review: Fisher Price Wonders Aquarium 73545 |
When we first received the Ocean Wonders Aquarium I thought it would be great for my infant in the crib, but it was harder for him to see than the mobile so we actually ended up using it more out of the crib until he was a little older. Once he could roll and initiate the music we attached it to the crib, and he loved kicking at it to get it started. The large purple button on the front was easy for him to push, even when he was little, which is nice because I've found a lot of infant toys are hard for an infant to actually activate themselves. He quickly learned about cause and effect with this toy.
As he got older, it was nice because he could activate the toy with his hand and eventually could make the two smaller buttons on the sides work, (the purple crab opens and closes his mouth, and the yellow star spins--these work whether the batteries are working or not, so even if the batteries are dead or dying they can still play with the toy on a limited basis).
There are several levels of choice with the Aquarium. A nice feature is that the buttons that "change" things are on the back of the toy, at the top. This is nice because you can choose the setting and it won't easily get bumped to something different, and it also keeps it easy to adjust once it's attached to the crib so you don't have to remove it to change anything (except batteries). There is a volume dial and it ranges from barely audible to fairly loud, which I liked because lots of toys only have one or two volume choices. As for settings the child sees, you can choose from Song 1 (a FP original, I think, I've never heard it before), Song 2(Twinkle Twinkle Little Star), Song 3(Lullaby and Goodnight), a medly of the three, a "bubbles" noise, and an "ocean" noise. A second setting lets you choose from music only, music and lights only, or music, lights, and bubbles (my baby's favorite).
Everything about the Ocean Wonders Aquarium is very soothing, from the music to the lights and bubbles. If you are looking for something more peppy you might want to choose a different toy. Overall, it is great and though very early I wasn't sure it was a great choice I've been very happy with it once my baby was old enough to begin to see and activate it (probably about three months). If I had to make a complaint I would say there is no way for the baby to change the song with "his" button on the front. I would like it better if you could change from one song to the next with one touch.
