| emreif's Full Review: Fisher and Paykel EcoSmart GWL15 Top Load Washer |
I bought my Fisher & Paykel washer in 2004 for $599. It has been wonderful. I have six people in my family including 4 playful children, who generate a lot of dirty clothing. This washer can handle the loads. I wash nearly every day and since purchasing this washer, I use a third of the amount of detergent I used to, and only half the amount of bleach.
It is a different kind of setup as opposed to your normal washer where you dump the detergent straight on to your clothing. With this washer, you lift the fabric softener cup and pour the detergent down the center of the agitator. You replace the softener cup and add fabric softener into it.
The washer will fill with just enough water to totally saturate the clothes and suspend the detergent solution in the water. The detergent water is more concentrated than that of other washers, so there is less agitation required and that keeps your clothing looking nicer, longer. And I can even wash my California King size comforter in it and it comes out great.
There are five different cycles on the washer including heavy duty, regular, delicate, wool washables, and permanent press. There are also many ways to customize each of these settings. You can set the washer to use fabric softener and/or bleach with a softener rinse cycle. You can set the washer to soak for 2 hours or use a time saver cycle for things you need to get washed up quick.
There are different water level settings, which is one of the major differences with this washer. I normally use the auto set because the washer will select the appropriate water level, but there are high, medium, and low levels to choose from. Of course there is washer temp including hot, warm and cold.
Another awesome thing about this washer is the spin speed. This washer can spin clothing until it is nearly dry. It will spin so fast that nearly all water is wrung out of the clothing which saves on drying time and thus, energy. The lid will lock for the safety of family members. The lid cannot be opened during the spin cycle.
There is also a delayed start option if you would like to set your washer to start at a certain time. You can delay the washer 1, 3, or 9 hours. That is perfect if you want to load it at night so it will begin washing right away in the morning. That way your wet clothing doesn't sit in it overnight.
My washer came with a sticker on the inside of the lid that gives basic instructions for adding detergent and bleach for quick reference. This helps my husband and children use the machine without looking it up in the manual.
I love this washer. But if there is a downfall, it is that the washer's lid is a tough plastic rather than metal. It doesn't look as chic, but it will not rust or tarnish like others, and it can be removed for cleaning.
I would recommend this washer to anyone, especially those with a larger family or those who just want to save on their energy bills. It is a great washer.
