Buyer Beware !! Fairly new product had an electrical meltdown.

Pros: Big compacity, good price, stainless steel tub, spins clothes really well.
Cons: Electrical malfunction. It only likes powder soaps. Fabric softeners are not recommended.
The Bottom Line: After my experience of using it I would not recommend it because of the electrical malfunction and the inability to give you hot wash cycle beyond three minutes.

After carefully researching all the washing machines and their reviews I decided to buy the Fisher and Paykel. I have had the washer since May of 2005. Today March 30,2008 it took a dive. It all started after I washed a fairly light load, then I smelled a considerable amount of smoke, the electrical smoke smell. I was in a panic mode thinking the inside of my walls were burning I expected to see flames at anytime. Then I located the source, my laundry room. Heavy, heavy smoke smell with wisps of grey visible smoke floating in my room. IT WAS MY WASHER, I quickly unplugged it then lifted the lid, more gray smoke in my face. The clothes in it were not completely spun down. I'm afraid that if the service technician tries to fix [if I can even get one] that my place will burn down. It might be under warranty, might not, bottom line is I don't want it in my house. Also for energy conservation reasons this machine will not give you a full hot load cycle that you might want, hot water trickles out for about three minutes then after that it's cold. I tried to trick it by setting a "favorites" load for hot, but then they have all the favorites set at auto water level which then puts you back to very little hot water. When you but a washing machine and you want a hot load cycle then you should get just that. This washing machine looks cheap and runs cheap and broke down three years later after using it for a family of three.
