A Nasty Helpful Friend!

Written: Dec 31 '00
Pros:Makes you feel better fast!
Cons:The taste and smell

Imaging a cloud of menthol and eucalyptus that is almost palpable as you enter a large room. My husband recently began working in an office. This enclosed environment is like a bacterial breeding ground. When one person is sick, the office gets sick. He's been there for three months and this winter everybody's sick. His business is nation-wide and is conducted mostly over the phone. You're voice is all you have. Everyone noticed how in spite of a brutal cold, he was not only working at his normal pace, but his voice wasn't strained in the least. His secret spread throughout the office. Everyone was involved. The secret....Fisherman's Friend cough drops. The Price......The cloud. The effect...productive sick people.

My husband's family has used Fisherman's Friend Lozenges for years. His father was a cop and spent a great deal of time outside, at night, in the cold. My husband was a mechanic when we married in an open shop without heat in Boston. Both had to work regardless of health or weather conditions. He, his mom and his dad,all raved about them. All I thought was they smelled nasty. I could only imaging what they taste like. So when I had a nagging cough and sore throat one day when we were out and I did not have my normal cough drops. I was stuck and my future husband knew it. He offered me a Fisherman's Friend lozenge; I said okay. I was kind of desperate. We were in the courting stages and a coughing wheezing date is a not a lot of fun.

"Yuck!" was my first thought as I put it my mouth and let it dissolve. The taste and smell is not something that is left to be desired. However, this is medicine and how many medicines taste or smell like candy. Once I stopped focusing on the taste I realized that my throat was feeling better. The cloud mentioned above arose. It sort of reminded me of a strong vapor rub smell. I could almost feel my sinuses drain, the pain in my throat lessened and I stopped coughing. The little lozenge was actually doing its job. Hurray!! And...eventually,the effects of the cloud didn't seem as bad....HOORAY!!!

What I like about Fisherman's Friend is that does what it says. It's hard medicine. We hardly use any other cough drops in our house now because these ones really make our coughs, colds and sore throats feel better in a short time.
