Pros: sharp stainless steel blades, softgrip handles for extra comfort, pivot screw to adjust blade tension
Cons: I'm using the scissors in the office rather than at home.
The Bottom Line: I centered the Bottom Line on paper and cut it in a star shape. These scissors cut nice points.

| dlstewart's Full Review: Fiskars 8" SoftGrip Scissors |
Someone permanently borrowed my scissors at work. Has that ever happened to you? Now you see it ... poof! ... gone forever. Oh well. The missing scissor caper offered the opportunity to buy a new pair of scissors. And I was allowed to choose whatever pair of scissors I wanted. What luxury! So, of course, I picked Fiskars, a brand I trust. Now Im the happy owner of a pair of Fiskars 8" Bent Softgrip Scissors.
Description
The scissors measure 8 1/4" from scissor tip to handle end, with the hardened stainless steel blades 3 3/4" long. The nose of the scissors is slightly curved, a good safety feature. The handles of these scissors are cushioned with a softgrip. A hard black plastic forms the outside of the handles while the handle insides are cushioned with a gray rubber-like material. The top finger hole where the thumb is inserted is almost circular at a 1" diameter. The bottom finger hole measures 3/4" high x 2 1/4" wide.
These scissors are designed for either left- or right-handed use.
A single metal pivot screw holds the two scissor halves together. The screw adjusts the blade tension should the scissors be too loose or too tight. This is a nice, professional looking pair of scissors.
My Experiences
Dont run with scissors. I was like a little kid with a new toy. Perhaps its because I love to sew and a good pair of scissors is essential when working with fabric. I value my scissors and appreciate a sharp blade that cuts with precision. Fiskars has outdone themselves with these scissors.
My fingers fit easily into the handle holes, with my thumb in the top hole and three of my fingers easily sliding into the bottom hole. If I cram my four fingers into the bottom hole, they overlap each other. The softgrip is very comfortable. The rubber-like material acts as a non-skid surface, too, which anchors the fingers in position so they dont slide in the handles.
At first, the scissors are stiff to use, and even with the cushion grip, my thumb felt the pressure of opening and closing the scissor blades. With use, the scissors become easier to use without losing their efficient cutting edge. The pivot screw allows adjustment of the blade tension if I had needed it. As I cut, I can hear the scrape of blade on blade. These blades are sharp, too.
What else can I cut?
I opened the blister card to free the scissors and immediately set to finding material to cut. Our office offers a variety of cutting materials, so I was able to widely test the scissor blades.
Fiskars says these scissors are designed to cut: film, paper, construction paper, poster board, fabric, cardboard and many other home and office materials.
Paper I dont even have to move the blades for these scissors to slice through a sheet of 20-pound copier paper. Drawing a circle and star on a piece of paper, I tested the scissors maneuverability. Im impressed. The Fiskars softgrip scissors glided around the circle and cut into the star angles with ease, producing sharp corners. These scissors cut through 10 layers of 20-pound paper as if it were one sheet.
Cardboard The art department had a scrap of thin black matte cardboard, and the scissors easily cut through it. Then I tested the scissors on the thick piece of cardboard that came from the back of a lined-paper tablet. The stiff cardboard was tougher on my fingers but still cut well, and the rubber softgrip handles made it easier to control the scissors.
Magazines & Newspaper As you no doubt guessed, the Fiskars scissors handled these tasks like a pro.
Plastic The shipping department uses plastic bubble wrap, and these scissors slice through it as if the plastic werent even in the way. I also cut the harder plastic of the blister card that the scissors came in. No problem.
Fabric Poking through the art department, I discovered a bunch of fabrics. These scissors easily cut nylon, four layers of 100% cotton material, polyester backed faux fur, interfacing and even batting. Im having way too much fun!
Wire-edged Ribbon Have you ever used wire-edged ribbon? A width of ribbon is bordered on each edge with thin wire. The wire allows the ribbon to be curved ... or when making bows, holds the ribbon loops so that they retain their shape. I cut a piece of 2" wide satin-like wire-edged ribbon, and the scissors worked great.
Tape I cut both regular Scotch tape and wide clear packing tape. These scissors cut both types of tape without leaving residue on the blades. Should tape residue gum the blades, alcohol works great to remove it. Dampen a paper towel with alcohol and gently rub the scissor blades. The alcohol cuts through the gummy tape residue.

Summary
I really like the Fiskars 8" Bent Softgrip cissors. These scissors provide a sharp, clean cut. The softgrip handles make it easier to control the scissors as well as offer my fingers additional comfort while cutting. I like these scissors so much that I am hiding them so they dont mysteriously disappear. I highly recommend these scissors to anyone for either office or home use.
