laura10801's Full Review: Fiskars Big Grip Garden Knife
Oh my goodness, this is a fabulous tool! I cannot tell you the rapture I experienced in finding a knife that can do almost EVERYTHING!
This knife is like no other knife I have ever used or even seen. The blade is about 7 inches long and about 1.5 inches wide and its edge is slightly indented like a small trowel, so you can carry seeds or dig with it more effectively. One edge of the blade is serrated, so it cuts through roots and small woody branches and runners easily; the other edge is smooth, sharp and straight, this supposedly makes it better for digging, I certainly found it very good at digging, so I'll agree with that. The entire blade is coated with an unidentified material to protect it from rust. The tip of the blade is a marvelous double pronged weeder, and it works very well at getting the entire taproot of a dandelion. Oh if only people were as versatile as this knife!
Now here's the thing that makes an already outstanding knife fabulous: The handle, which is perhaps 6 inches long, is made from soft, molded stuff that fits perfectly into my hand, with a nice reassuring girth that isn't too much for my average-sized, female hands. It actually feels good to hold this knife, it feels very well-balanced. This thing has been made with so much attention to detail that it even has a nice big hole at the end of the handle so you can make sure that when you hang it up for storage, it is well-hung.
Of course none of this matters if the knife is flimsy. Say no more, I was able to comfortably and easily dig up some deeply buried bulbs and dislodge a fairly large rock from clay soil with this baby! I had no sense that my Big Grip Garden Knife would go soft on me. It was strong and powerful and mighty. I am in awe.
I only used my knife for the first time today. Normally I would wait a couple of weeks or months before reviewing it, but I got so excited at the fabulous feel and performance of this product that I could not wait to tell you about it. I do not think this was premature, but if I am let down later, I will certainly amend this review.
Oh, I almost forgot, it comes with a limited lifetime warranty. I am not clear on what the limitations of the warranty are, but I am not worried.
So as you can see, I am very enthusiastic about my brand new Fiskars Big Grip Garden Knife. I am rarely this excited this fast by any tool, so there must be something really special here.
