Child's scissors are another item we tend to misplace. The reason being because I put them up so my child isn't cutting what she shouldn't be cutting and then I can't find my hiding places. Her fine motor skills are delayed so learning to cut with scissors was a skill that was hard for her. She still has trouble knowing how to hold the scissors and how to manipulate them to cut at times. So we do lots of craft kits and projects where she can get cutting practice. Because we lose so many scissors, I do pick them up often! The last ones I bought were from Walmart and it was the Fiskars Childrens Safety Scissors. I didn't realize Fiskars as the name brand because they were not expensive as most Fiskars scissors tend to be!
These come in different colors, the last pair we bought were purple. These are a tough pair of scissors for children to use. Fiskars brand name is written on the outside of the steel blades with a USA logo. Most children's scissors have the blunted ends but these are not that blunt. Blunt but also come to a tip as you would expect of adult scissors. Instead of the squarer tip as other child safety scissors. Still it could hurt if a child stabs someone with them.
5 1/4" long in total with steel blades almost 2" long. The handle has two loops, one for the thumb and one for the fingers. The thumb hole is a round hole while the finger hole is more of a semi circle with a curved edge for comfort. The steel blades are not sharp enough to cut little fingers under normal use. They can be used by left or right handed students. These scissors have a straight blade not the cutesy design as some decorative scissors. Perfect for cutting poster board, paper, construction paper, and other school assignments for children. The handle is made up of a hard thick plastic that is comfortable to hold and use.
Children will be able to cut easily once they learn how to use scissors. It takes little effort to open and close them. Sturdy enough to be dropped, stepped on, thrown and still be useable. We should know! I prefer these scissors to other brands because of the comfortable handle and ease of use for my child. Recommended for pre-K and up. Children will love the bright colors available but I recommend buying only one color for the classroom so there are no fights over everyone wanting purple and only one pair of purple Fiskars scissors available!
