Spring Has Sprung!
Written: May 19 '02
Pros:Durable, Reliable, and Inexpensive
Cons:Nada
The Bottom Line: An invaluable gardening tool at an extremely reasonable price.
Spring is here again and one place folks are sure to frequently find me throughout the spring, summer and fall months is out puttering in my garden landscape. From the smallest pansy, multiple rose bushes and dwarf weigela to my herbal containers and vegetable bed, Fiskars Garden Shears are an item sure to be found at my side as well.
These durable shears are invaluable in regards to multiple tasks such as light trimming/pruning of small shrubs, cutting and deadheading flowers, as well as the impromptu opening of a seed packet or bag of soil. Rust resistant, the stainless steel blades of these shears offer gardeners a precise, clean cut each and every time they are used in conjunction with your plants.
To ensure best results, basic maintenance and proper storage of your shears is always recommended, however. Basically all this consists of is wiping them clean of soil and plant residue, drying them after a day’s use when coming in contact with moisture and storing them in a dry place whenever possible. A light wash of oil every now and again also helps to keep them working in tip-top shape.
Stainless steel also renders greater longevity to these blades, dulling is still not evident on my shears and I have used them regularly throughout the past year, plus. This particular aspect is especially pleasing when you understand that clean cuts are less likely to become diseased or pest infested, as ragged cuts are slower to heal.
Two additional features make these shears top-notch, they are constructed with comfort-molded plastic handles and Fiskar’s guarantees this product with a lifetime warranty. The orange comfort grip handles are convenient and remain comfortable in my hand over a fair amount of time, whether in the garden or the kitchen. These are categorized as a floral tool, after all, and make short work of small wire, floral tape and various flower stems.
Wire? You betcha! The shears have a notched edge that aids in the cutting of wire, simply align the wire to be cut within the incorporated notch and snip. Thin screening material and even garden stakes are no problem with this tool, simply snip and go about your gardening.
Inexpensive, Fiskar Garden Shears are not only an aesthetically pleasing, durable and reliable tool to have on hand, at around ten dollars they are extremely cost effective for the anticipated duration of their extended lifetime. The lifetime warranty not only backs up their product one hundred percent in case the necessity of replacement arises, but says quite a lot in itself about how confident Fiskar’s is about their product’s material make-up and expected longevity.
Ding, ding, ding! We have a definite winner.
In the year-plus I have used these shears in conjunction with a variety of gardening tasks I have yet to find fault with them, bolstering my belief that this simple garden tool is a spectacular product at a very reasonable price. I highly recommend them for the active, cost conscience gardener.
