Pros:Rounded tips, durable, inexpensive
Cons:None for us
The Bottom Line: If your kids need scissors Fiskar makes durable, safe, fun colored scissors.
About 6 weeks ago I attended my first parent-teacher conference as my oldest daughters first year of nursery school was coming to a close. The only concern her teachers had was Bugs difficulty in using scissors. They suggested that we work on her cutting skills at home over the summer. That of course meant that I needed to purchase some scissors. I selected Fiskar Neon Round Tip Child Scissors for her.

These small scissors are about 5 in length, although the blades are only 2 long. The end of the blades are rounded off instead of coming to a point for safety reasons. The handles are plastic and the finger loops are designed with small hands in mind. The packaging claims that these scissors can be used by both left and right handed children.
Since my oldest is just 3 ½ there was no doubt that round tip scissors were in order. I didnt want to have to worry about any running with scissors injuries. At the store there were several to pick from but I steered my daughter to the Fiskar scissors since it is the same brand that I own for my good scissors. It wasnt that hard since the colors of these scissors definitely have kid appeal. Our Wal-Mart had them in pink, purple and teal and Bug chose what she calls aquamarine.
When we got home Bug was excited to try out her new scissors and I understood immediately why her teachers suggested we practice at home a little. She couldnt even really figure out how to put her fingers in the handle. It took quite a bit of practice for her to be able to do that on her own. Once she gets the scissors on her hand she is good to go. She cuts paper easily with them but does not yet have the hand strength to cut anything heavier. She is right handed so I cannot attest to the claim that these are good for lefties as well.
I have tried using them to cut out a game on the back of a cereal box. While the scissor could take it my hands were too large for the handles to cut something that heavy. Also since the tip is blunt you cant use the scissors to puncture a hole to get started. I can use these for cutting paper without too much difficulty.
We have been using these scissor nearly every day for the last 6 weeks and they still cut with ease. Paper can be really wear down the sharpness of scissor quickly but these are still good and sharp, but for only $2 when they eventually dull I wont mind buying another pair.
The potential for accidents is what kept me from buying scissors for my daughter sooner. However these Fiskars with their rounded tips seem to have taken away as much danger as possible.
