Normally the adage "you get what you pay for" is used when something does not cost very much, and its quality is lacking.

But for less than $8 at our local "everybody shops there" store, we picked up a pair of these scissors originally as "sewing scissors." While looking at them in the store, it was pretty obvious that the handles were very strong, and shaped just right to fit your thumb into comfortably. They have very sharp blades all the way up to the tip, which is curved just enough to reinforce, and also allow cutting between sheets of fabric or a pattern without hanging. While they are a little larger than your average snips, they could be used for just snipping thread pretty easily as well.

Around our house, almost anything like scissors is going to find its way to being used as a tool. If the tool fits the job, then it is a worthwhile investment. So while we originally purchased our first pair of Fiskars as sewing scissors, we decided that we needed another pair for the kitchen as well after noting that they are sturdy enough to help prep fish, and trim fat off of meat as well.

The stainless steel blades hold their sharpness for a really long time, and I have never needed to sharpen them, although they have had daily use now for over a year. They are easy to wash in the sink, but sturdy enough to stand up to the dishwasher as well. That is our normal method of cleaning them.

Our children have used them for school projects and cutting paper, but be careful. They are very sharp, and our son cut his hand with them on Christmas day trying to open one of those super sealed plastic packages. Bad enough that it required a trip to the hospital, and several stitches.

We really enjoy the quality, and feel of these scissors and highly recommend them.
