In Need Of Sheer Shears:
..Me, my mom and my gram just started doing crafts about just over a year ago. We were doing plastic canvas and yarning. Doing the plastics canvas required sharp scissors in order to cut the pieces out for crafts. Precision was also a need. We needed a pair of scissors that could cut precision cuts in the grided plastic without cutting other parts. Thats when I suggested that we get these scissors. My mom had had a pair years ago and I liked them. We bought two pairs so we wouldnt fight over them while working. They were about ten bucks a piece at Wal-Mart.
On The Outside:
..My pair is a little different looking than the shown pair. My pair has gray grips with black end caps. The midsection between the grips and the blades is black. There is a spring in this section that allows for easy opening after squeezing and a sliding lock to keep the scissors closed when not in use. With the locking mechanism, you can keep the scissors closed to keep them from puncturing other things when you are done with them. The tips of the blades are very sharp. If not locked, the scissors would remain open from the spring. And last, at the top are the blades.
Handling:
..I like these scissors over any others because they arent like regular scissors. After using other scissors for a while, my fingers would start hurting from the ring-like handles that youd put your fingers into. But with these scissors, you have a spring to help open them after compressing, always having an outward tension that keeps them in your hand. So there are no rings to hurt your fingers with. Plus, you use your entire hand instead of a few fingers to hold these. The grips are made of soft rubber for a comfortable grip. They work great when we cut plastic canvas for hours at a time, never tiring our hands.
..As for control, these arent going to slip out of your hands. Whether you are pruning plants or doing crafts these scissors will stay with you. They are great when it comes to cutting one little corner on the canvas. You dont have to exert a lot of pressure, which would cause other scissors to suddenly go and cut more than you want.
Da Blades:
..For these scissors, this may be the downfall. Well, it really depends on what you use them for. We used them for many months for cutting thick plastic non-stop. They were fine and stayed sharp, that is, for the first few months. After a few months, the blades on both pairs of scissors were beginning to dull a fast rate. I dont want to say that theyd do that to anyone who buys them, cause most people probably wont use them to cut sheets of plastic everyday. But now, there are at the point to where they wont even cut yarn. Even though we gave them abuse, I still wouldve expected them to stay sharp after all these months. Especially for ten bucks.
..Now, if you use them for other tasks such as keeping flowers well kept, then I dont suppose they will go dull as fast.
Best Uses:
..These scissors are great for more than just crafts. Here are some of the things I find these work great with:
--- > Grooming Flowers great for cutting off them dead ones. It will keep your flowers energy focused on other parts. Keeps plants looking presentable.
--- > Cutting wrapping paper because these have sharp blades, they cut wrapping paper well. Especially if you can cut paper in one swipe and not a cutting motion. They cut through almost any kind of paper well.
--- > Hair if your hair is good, but you have one of those pesky sites, just snip it. Just wet the hair and cut it, or have someone else do it. (disclaimer: Im not responsible for personal damage. January 1, 2004).
Coming To A Close:
..So, in the end, I give these scissors a four outta five. I like them and wont take any other. They have a good grip, superb rebound with spring, and a locking mechanism. The only problem, though ,was just the blades getting dull, but only because we use them for cutting hard plastic all the time.
