Fitness Quest Edged below the competition.

Pros:Number of programs and resistance

Cons:Warranty; unstable; not durable; uncomfortable

The Bottom Line: I don't like this bike. It's inexpensive but with a 90-day warranty I wouldn't go near it.

Basics:

The Edge 595r is made by Fitness Quest and will cost you around $300.00

It measures about 53 inches long by 25 inches wide by 50 inches high. It weighs about 100 pounds with a maximum user weight of 250 pounds. Although I usually think recumbent bikes to be sturdy and stable I didn’t think the Edge was at all.

Sometimes I’ll say that for $300 don’t expect the top of the line quality but in this case you get bottom of the line quality.

You’ll get a terrible 90-day warranty.

The design:

Sitting on the bike I found the usual handles on each side of the bike with heart rate sensors.

The literature says that I would find a large ergonomic, molded seat and over-sized pedals. In fact I found the seat to be uncomfortable though it was molded.

The pedals were among the smallest I’ve seen. My sneakers are a size 7 to 7 1/2. I don’t think a much larger foot will be comfortable on the pedal.

The straps adjusted by my pulling on the end of the strap and then pressing the ends off the tabs they were on.

The seat’s adjustment was a joke. At first I thought that it just slid back and forth and maybe eventually it would get caught and lock. Many bikes have knobs and some have levers as this one does. The lever was broken. If it worked it would have been used to lock the seat into place.

There were a set of handles under the small monitor. I found a metal bottle holder that was attached to the bike as well as an iPod holder. I’d rather have integrated holders given a choice.

What it does:

The bike was easy to pedal so I can’t complain about that. It was noisy which seemed to be a result of the lack of stability. The monitor is small and simple. It showed me my time, speed, distance, resistance level and approximate calories burned.

The monitor had the words up, down, enter, start, stop and test. The start function gave me my body fat measurement which I don’t think is accurate unless it is being done by a person with a computer.

The Edge 595 has 12 programs which is actually good. It had three heart rate programs, intervals, ramp and random to name a few.

It gave me sixteen levels of resistance which is fine for a recumbent bike.

So?

The Edge 595 R is a simple to use, inexpensive recumbent bike with good programs. However the fact that the lever was broken; I thought it unstable; the warranty is awful and that overall it was uncomfortable makes this a not recommended bike in my opinion.

I hope this helped you make a decision but please feel free to leave me a comment or question.
