Pros: Very low impact, Easy to use, Fun!
Cons: Bulky and awkward packaging, no light on computer to see easily
I used to go to the gym 3-5 days a week, but moved and was further away than the cost of gasoline was worth. My apartment complex offers a gym, but it is not the sort of place that inspires exercise. I bought this for an easy to use, portable, aerobic exercise.
So far, and it hasn't been very long, I am impressed. After being out of an exercise routine for about 6 months, and not very active at a deskjob all day, it is safe to say I am out of shape. I am also about 50 lbs overweight, but one of those people who can "carry it" hahaha.
Assembly was fairly easy for me. I used the video and the written instructions together. It only took me about 20 mins to get it all together from start to finish. A big plus there! I find it sturdy enough to hold me at 210 lbs and didn't feel like one wrong move would send me flying.
In my excitement, I haven't yet bothered to watch the rest of the video to come with it. I'm the type of person to just get on and do it until I find something I like. But after reading the reviews here I am going to follow the video tomorrow when I get home from work!
My first time on it was a pleasure. I stayed on for just 1 mile, at about 15 minutes. It took about 8-10 minutes before I was starting to get winded, which surprised me. On average I am a pack a day plus smoker. But I could feel the workout all through my legs. I liked it that way. The low impact on this machine was allowing me to get an aerobic work out easier than at my gym! And even when I did start to get winded, it was still low impact enough that I wasn't turning red from straining myself.
The only thing that might concern me is the comfort of the handlebars. I am 5'10", and the most comfortable position I have found so far is holding on to the axle bar or side posts. But you can definitely feel a better workout when you incorporate the handlebars. For those of us who are clumsy, I recommend starting with your hands stationary until you get used to the swinging movement.
My advice is to have a little fun with it. Go faster, move your hips, be happy :)
*update* Watched the video - very helpful!! "you can do it!"
