Pros: Excellent blend of technical climbing ability with comfort
Cons: Shoes tend to stretch considerably, not as precise as other shoes
The Bottom Line: A professional level shoe with comfort in mind. Perfect as a single, all-around shoe or for use when bouldering or on long routes.

| limeybrit9's Full Review: Five Ten Ascent |
When I first started climbing several years ago, the Five-Ten Ascent was the second shoe I ever purchased, and despite various stints with other models and brands, the Ascent is always a regular choice for climbing. I can't think of a time now when I didn't have at least one pair of them in use. What it really comes down to is that the Ascent is such a comfortable shoe to wear (eventually, anyway... but I'll get to that). The additional padding on the heel makes it a little easier to walk around in the shoes while bouldering, and add a little extra comfort on longer routes.
Additional comfort means sacrificing some precision in the shoe, although it certainly edges well, and with the world-renowned C4 rubber underneath, can stick to most anything. A lack of camber shows the shoe isn't designed much for powerful, overhanging moves, and the padded heel tends to cause a lack of any good feel of the rock when heel-hooking.
The shoe itself has held up remarkably well, given the abuse it gets put through on a regular basis. Resoles are the only upkeep necessary to keep this shoe in perfect condition. When sizing the shoe, however, keep in mind that it does stretch quite a lot with use. I generally purchase mine a good size and a half to two sizes smaller than street shoes, which can certainly be a little rough on the feet for the first few outings. But once they break down a bit and start conforming to your foot, you won't want to wear any other shoe again.
