I rented wore these to backpack the Zion NP "Narrows" from top to bottom last week. Normally wearing a women's narrow size 10, these unisex, high-volume shoes were roomy on the sides, and I should have tried to fill them in with Superfeet insoles. I did wear neoprene socks with them which helped, but they were still very roomy. If you have high-volume feet, you will love the fit. At any rate, these shoes were incredible in the Narrows, which is hiking down a river and much like trying to walk over "greased bowling balls." My b/f and I were really impressed that they allowed enough sensitivity for us to feel what we were stepping on, yet protected our feet from pounding and sharp rocks, and our ankles from the inevitable beating rocks, sticks, etc. The grippy rubber is also amazing, and even stuck to slimy, algae or mud-encrusted rocks that had been worn smooth in the river. Our companions were "sacrificing" sneakers or wearing the Salomon Tech Amphibians, and their feet were sore and tired after hiking, and they had to stop occasionally to repair things or remove rocks and sand. Neither happened to us and were generally a full 20 minutes ahead of them everywhere. Aside from the fit, these are absolutely wonderful shoes and I'd recommend them to anyone.
