| galant95s's Full Review: Flamingo Las Vegas |
we stayed at the flamingo for a week
when we arrived on fri night a convention had postponed their
departure so we were 'relocated' to the LV Hilton which is off the strip
but has much better rooms (probably more expensive also)
nice big garden tubs and double sinks
we got a free 'upgrade' and the first night was also free
if you ever get relocated, make sure you demand at least the same benefits
we were on the 23rd floor & got a king size bed which was what we wanted
but were not getting earlier
the view from the room was amazing, we over looked the strip and could the Caesar's Place and the dancing fountains of Bellagio
the windows were ceiling to floor but the one distubing thing was
they would keep making creaking sounds due to the winds outside
and that kept us a little worried (we were assured that was normal)
the rooms were small and very dim - i don't know why they can't install
brighter lights, we could also hear people in adjacent rooms
the self parking lot was very confusing - easily one of the worst designed
we've ever been in
there is a bridge from the 3rd level into the hotel so try to park close to the elevators if you have lots of luggage
we tried the spa where you get $10 discounts if you have the flamingo
player's card (its free so apply ASAP and use it for all your gaming
in the casino to collect free points)
we did not gamble too much (about $25-35/day) but managed to get a free
buffet ($15) and another $3 off any meal at any hotel restraunt
its $40 for a 25 min body massage at the spa if you show your
player's card
the slots near the perimeter of the casino seemed to be 'looser' than
the rest
some claimed 101% payoff but i'm not sure how that's possible -
the casino would always be losing money on those
we hated the fact that there was smoking everywhere
even in the rest rooms - i strongly believe in the right
of sane adults to kill themselves but don't want to suffer
because of their addictions
we would get mild headaches because of all the smoking in the casinos
so we could not stay for more than 1-2 hours at a stretch
if you want to play the slots, we found starting at the nickel slots
the best strategy and if you hit a jackpot (over 1,000 coins)
you could move up to the next higher slots (e.g., quarter slots)
you should probably set aside any winnings because in the long run
you will always lose to the house
we saw 2 shows @ the flamingo:
* Forever Plaid - about $26/person
* Rockettes - about $53/person (dinner)
prices include all taxes
we found that most dinner shows were a waste of money -
the food is pretty bad
you are better off saving the money on food and going
for better seats if available
the seating is manual and extremely slow which is very annoying -
it takes about 30-45 min from when the doors open to when you get to sit
of course the 'captain' expects a tip for this
(everyone expects a tip in vegas!)
remember that people with the players card can stand in the often
shorter VIP line which we only found out later
flamingo is one of the oldest hotels on the strip so while the location
is awesome - the facilities are dated/old
they finally messed up our billing when we checked out
it took another 15-20 min to resolve this (we were overcharged 'accidently'
so check your room rates carefully)
