NOTE:3/25/00: I wanted to let the readers know that this is just my experience with Flamingo. I'm sure that other guests have have an excellent stay, but unfortunately for me, my experience was not as good. Please keep in mind that this is just my personal experience from my visit.
I will be completely honest -- we had an awful time when we stayed at the Flamingo Hilton. We frequent Vegas 2-3 times a year, and always stay at Luxor, but we decided to try Flamingo for a change. From one thing to another, things kept getting worse and worse during our weekend get-away.
First of all, when I called to make reservations, no one told me that they were doing construction on the hotel. Workers everywhere, extremely noisy, and we had to take detours to get inside the parking lot. Then, when we checked in, there was a Japanese tour group checking in. Now normally, the hotels have a separate section for tour groups since they consist of so many people. Not this time. We waited in line almost 1 1/2 hours to check in. Finally we got up to our room, and there were no towels in sight. I called housekeeping, and it took over an hour to get some towels for us. OK, a minor glitch. Everything else is fine, right? Wrong.
We went to the Buffet for dinner. Everything was cold and unappetizing. The servers brought us each one drink and never came back to see if we needed refills. We ate some food which we didn't enjoy at all, and paid $13 a person for it. We went to the casino to try some slots and lost a few dollars.
Late at night when we decided to go to sleep, I pulled the bedspread off (I never leave it on because you don't know who used it for what). I kept it on the floor. Well, during the night, my legs were getting itchy but I just attributed it to the laundry detergents and/or fabric softeners. I thought it was some allergy. When I woke up in the morning, I had small bites all over my legs. I'm talking 100-150 small red pimple looking things. I had an idea what they were, and I confirmed it with a doctor friend of mine: They were bites from BED BUGS. I called the consierge and was told that there were no supervisors available to speak to me. We checked out immediately.
When I came home, I wrote a nasty letter to Flamingo and demanded that they refund my money. I received a curt note back saying that since I did not mention the matter about the bites while I was there, they would be unable to do nothing. I replied back to them and said that I did attempt to speak to a supervisor and was told no one was there. They never responded.
You always heard about hotel rooms being infested with bugs and bacteria, but you never think something would ever happen to you. I have stayed in may different hotels in various cities and have never had a problem. Apparently the Flamingo isn't interested in keeping their beds clean and fumigated like they should. They also didn't seem interested in assisting me or in providing some decent customer service. Not only am I never going to stay there again, but everytime someone tells me they are going to vegas, I tell them what happened to me and tell them not to stay at Flamingo.
