Flamingo Hilton on the Jewel
Written: Jan 12 '00 (Updated Apr 12 '00)
Pros:Offers a good buffet, good musical shows and a wide variety of gambling games
Cons:It's got everything covered.
The Flamingo Hilton Las Vegas is one of the oldest hotels left standing on the Las Vegas Strip, albeit renovated beyond recognition from gangster Bugsy Siegal's hotel. There used to be a sign with pink champagne bubbles burbling up and down in front and Bugsy's suite was still maintained in one of the back bungalows, but that is all gone now. Flashy, modern, to keep up with the need to catch the passerby's eye when surrounded by so much glitter it's like trying to make a choice from an open treasure chest.
But if you long for the romantic past, take heart. The new Flamingo has brought back the old. Broadcasting on radio station The Jewel on Friday nights from 8pm to 11pm PST,is a show featuring the orchestra of Buddy Grecco and local singers and artists. Prior to the starting of the show, there is an hour's ballroom dance lesson, beginning at 7pm. The music is absolutely beautiful and I am inspired when writing my Epinions by listening to it. I was completely carried away by a piano solo, accompanied by the orchestra, of Moon River, one of my favorites and a piece I play all the time myself.
The outdoor garden spa is one of the most beautiful in Las Vegas, ponds filled with fish and exotic birds perching around, flowing waterfalls and outdoor snack bars and lounges. It is a relaxing spa, where you can drift off and enjoy the Las Vegas sun.
