I stayed at the Flamingo Hilton on my last trip to Vegas and I found the place to be quite enjoyable. We chose the Flamingo for its location, right in the middle of the action. This was my third trip to Vegas and we had stayed at both ends (Las Vegas Hilton and the Frontier) on the previous visits. Because we enjoy walking, the Flamingo provided us with the best access to what we wanted to see. We were within walking distance of just about every hotel/casino along the strip. We were right across from the beautiful Caesar's Palace, which has a great shopping area.
The rooms, although nothing fancy, were comfortable. If a view is important to you, make sure you check when making your reservations. We had a great view of a roof! It didn't matter to us, but if you want a view, ask for a room on the poolside. That pool area is beautiful. Although it was too cold to use when we went, we did walk around it and all I can say is WOW. There were palm trees, flamingos (yes real ones), and penguins. A hot tub secluded from the rest of the pools provided a relaxing and private getaway. The pools themselves wound around, broken up by the trees, providing a sense of privacy. One section of the pool was partially enclosed with a waterfall over it.
The casino area was nice and the staff very friendly.
On the downside (in addition to the lovely roof view), check-in took a long time (about an hour). We arrived on a Thursday mid-day. We were able to check out and get a cab very quickly.
Overall, if you're looking for a hotel that's close to the action, not real fancy, but not a dive either, then the Flamingo is a nice choice.
