Pros:Back of Card, Easy to read LSU stats, Pictures, Cardboard
Cons:Design Problems, Nothing Fancy
The Bottom Line: Shaq's 401 Fleer Orlando Magic RC is a decent one, considering its price. The quality is there, the design is not the best.
Shaquille O Neal has recently made news, as it appears the Orlando Magic are going to interview him, for the position of General Manager. Dwight Howard and other players aren't pleased, and I'm not sure if this is a legitimate offer from the team, but as long as you aren't asking Shaq to hit a free throw shot, he should be fine if given that position. I like Shaq. He was a dynamic player on the court, a fun presence, and has been in the movie "Freddie Got Fingered", giving him bonus points for his entertainment value. Also he has done service for the Los Angeles community as an auxillary Sheriff's deputy which is commendable, and it would be a joy to meet him for just a moment. I'm still looking for that autograph, but even just to shake his hand, and laugh about the various basket glass he broke over the years would be funny.
Shaq of course recently retired, but he's no doubt, going to be a Hall of Famer. He will be enshrined in Springfield, MA, and his 1992 Fleer rookie card, is an alright one. Its not the best one, but for those looking for an affordable one, this might be up your alley. You can get it for under $20, and the quality of the cardboard is high. My problems with it, are its appearance. You can rest assured, with ample protection, that this card will not bend or lose its luster. Yet it looks a bit amateur, although I do like the front action picture shot. The back shows him ready on the court, but the front shows him ready to get the ball, and do some damage with the Magic.
As for the back, his stats from LSU are easy to read. I actually liked the back better, as it has a regulation color basketball on the back, while the front has gold edges, matched with part of what appears to be a silver and blue one. Yes, its ugly. However, the pictures are pretty good, and being such a phenomenal player, its one for all to have. I've had it in my collection for years now, and due to being protected properly, its in mint condition. On the back you can see he's 7'1, and that he's from Newark, NJ. This is a fairly good card, but there are better examples to choose from. You will hav to pay extra for that honor, but this one as its stands, I'll give it an average rating. I just wish they didn't have the silly gold edges and off colored baskeball part on the front. Other than that, its of fine quality, and should be in any Shaq fan's collection.
